If it were me, I'd gladly make your 9 orders, (yippee!) and then ALSO enter it in the ugly necklace contest. Not like any of the people who ordered it would ever know. This year's ugly necklace contest has some new rules--it has to be purple, so think of an ugly color to go with purple, (red? bright green? brown?) and add some uglier mismatched
I bought some findings thru the mail that I thought would be "antiqued" but they are bright copper and I would like something more muted Any suggestions?
Like Deb, I just let the chain, beads, etc sit out on the counter unprotected for a while. I find that handling the beads or wearing the chain also

I just found out that Bead Star 09 will officially be on newstands December 8th! Only a month more to wait--I am super excited to see all the winners. And I believe that will be the official start of the 2010 contest as well. If its like last year, they will post the rules for the upcoming contest in the magazine with deadlines, categories, etc. I wonder
While you can certainly make your kumihimo disc for a lot less, having the booklet and the bobbins will make your learning curve a lot lower.
If you figure in the time to research how to make a disc, and then actually make the disc, $12 sounds like a great way to go. Totally worth it. Maybe I'll ask santa to

Hey Lita, I found this kumi kit on amazon. It has a disc, bobbins and instructions for $12. Is this everything I would need to get started? Here's the link: its ridiculously long--hope it works. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DQV8NS/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0971486662&pf_rd_m

I did this with a group of girls age 9-11. There were 6 girls. I did memory wire bracelets rather than necklaces. I cut all the wire in advance and made a loop in one end. I got a bunch of inexpensive beads together (stone chips, glass bicones, fake pearls, those plastic cube beads with letters on them) and just put them all in the center of the table

Holy cow! Look at all those peridot brios! That must have cost a fortune. Very high end--terrific work. I love seeing all your kumi projects too, and am getting more curious about finding out more about it, even though its not my typical M.O. Erin

I LOVE the bumpy pieces. What a great idea! There was a thread a while back about making your own fake sea glass, but I never even though of using textured glass. Awesome idea! I'm going to your ebay auctions right now! Erin

Thats a cool site, Mikki. If they are fabricating the cabs to order, I bet they would drill them. Shoot them an email and ask. Of course, the marquis cabs would be flat on the back side, which is maybe not what you want. That marquis shape is difficult to find in large stones, but you could always substitute a teardrop or briolette shape and get a similar

I also like monster slayer. I bought from thunderbird once and paid nearly $10 in shipping. Never tried Rio, even though lots of people swear by them. Monsterslayer also has that new liquid liver of sulfer (with a much longer shelf life than the chunks and easier to use) for about $9. Erin
