  • Re: Favorite resin for making charms?

Hi, Thanks for your interest. The book of mine that people are referring to is Custom Cool Jewelry, you can find it in the Interweave Store, http://www.interweavestore.com/Beading-Jewelry/Books/Custom-Cool-Jewelry.html, and a DVD on making resin charms: http://www.interweavestore.com/Beading-Jewelry/Video/Custom-Collage-Charms.html Thanks! • Re: Favorite resin for making charms?

Hi Pam, The dried flowers will most probably change color with any resin you use because they are so absorbent. You could try pressing them between 2 pieces of clear packaging tape before covering them with resin. Make sure the edges are tightly sealed. If using Amazing Glaze (the kind you bake in a toaster oven), the heat might make the tape shrivel

I haven’t tried it, but Sherri Haab used it to make a wonderful necklace for Handcrafted Jewelry --our special, newsstand-only publication that will out Aug. 11th. Melinda ______ Melinda Barta Editor, Beadwork

  • Re: What can I use to stop tarnishing on all my mixed metal findings and chains?

Believe it or not, you can protect base metals from the elements (and thus prevent tarnishing) by lightly coating your jewelry with acrylic spray. This spray can be found at most craft and hardware stores. Look for labels that claim “non-yellowing” and “moisture-resistant.” We usually opt for matte finish, but glossy finish is

Thanks for the recommendations and for the nice comments, I'm so happy you like my book! It was so much fun to make. I love Susan Lenart Kazmer's work and have made collages using a lot of her bezels but haven't tried the Ice Resin yet—I didn't realize it is non-toxic, that's great to know! Erin, I can't wait to see your

  • Favorite resin for making charms?

Hi everyone, I found a few posts about making beads with resins using molds, but have you made charms and pendants by filling blank bezels with fun papers, stickers, photos, etc., and then using the resin as a sealant? I have found this be very addicting! While writing my book ( Custom Cool Jewelry ) I played with Diamond Glaze, Amazing Glaze (both

  • Re: How to preserve base metals from tarnish/color loss

Hi, I haven't heard of the floor wax trick but you can try lightly spraying the findings with matte acrylic spray to prevent them from changing color. I've done this on collaged paper/plastic charms and pendants and it's worked great, but I haven't tried it on metal. Just be sure to use several thin coats and of course do this in a well
