Marcasite Trio

These chandelier earrings give off just a little bit of sparkle over a glass of wine.   The half moon is a marcasite chandelier with sterling silver chain cascading onyx beads.

Marcasite became popular during WWI & II when diamonds were being used in military manufacturing. Not only is a diamond the hardest substance known, it also has the highest thermal conductivity – tremendous heat can pass through it without causing damage. So women gave up their diamonds and started wearing marcasite that could give off a similar diamond sparkle.  I love the old posters: "Do the job he left behind!" Rosie the Riveter 1943

About Cynthia

My daughters and I search for beads where ever we go. We look for new styles and patterns in whatever city we happen to be visiting. We're having fun setting up an etsy shop to feature our earrings and bracelets. I make them, my daughters name them. Visit us:

I grew up making beaded jewelry and rediscovered my hobby after my kids were born. Now my daughters and I have fun shopping the bead stores, creating new designs and photographing each project. My inspiration comes from travel and exploration. I find ideas from culture, museums, friends and scouring the internet. I've lived all over (the Pacific Northwest, San Francisco, Manhattan and now New England) and traveled extensively (India, New Zealand, SE Asia, Mexico, Scandinavia, the Baltics, rural England, Paris ....) Each place is a new discovery for me. I love to check out the local colors, materials, textiles and beads! It inspires my designs. I would love to be able to quit my day job ... but until then, it is simply my weekend hobby.
