Hot Summer Butterflies and Flowers

I made this piece using plastic components in hot summer colors. The necklace encircles the neck at, approximately, 41 inches. It's clunky. It's chunky. It's fun! The flower beads measure 1.5 inches across. The Butterfly beads measure 1.34 inches across. Each bead is made of plastic that is easily strung on to beading wire and crimped for closure. All the wearer has to do is to slip this piece over the head, and be off with a necklace that will draw attention to anyone who wears it.

Plastic rhinestones and beads in shades of blackberry, mauve, silver and gunmetal, with touches of fuchsia and black, are set off with velvety cording and chain in this elegant asymmetrical necklace.

The soft velour cord is doubled and one end is attached to the back of the focal piece. The other end hangs freely and becomes a tassel made with bits of chain and an acrylic rhinestone with flower beadcap. The suede/pleather cording is threaded through a gunmetal chain, folded and attached to a clasp made of acrylic rhinestones and beads. This lower half of the necklace is attached to the velour loop at the opposite side of the necklace. Then additional beaded chains are suspended along with the cord and chain sections. One of the cord and chain ends becomes a second tassel.

Round velvet, acrylic rhinestone and bead-embellished focal piece (available at JoAnn’s); Laliberi acrylic flowers; assorted plastic and metallized plastic beads, buttons and rhinestones; acrylic rhinestones set in metal prong settings with double sets of holes; velour tubular ribbon; silver and gunmetal chain; pleather cording, wire for wrapped loops and attaching dangles.

I apologize for not showing the top of the necklace. I had to photograph while traveling without a tripod, and needed to hang the necklace somehow with safety pins!
