    Hello from Southern Germany!

    Hello! Nice to meet you!

I'm a beader from Southern Germany and would love to hear from you. Most of my spare time I create and sell my own jewelry but also do Native American Bead- and Quillwork. And many, many other things.

    Have a look: www.kokopelli.blogmonster.de

Welcome to our little home on the web as it were. Beautiful work. I just wish that I could read German.

Thank you! Nice to have so many people sharing the same addiction! Big Smile

Sorry about the German but most of my customers are German. When I got the time (*biglaugh* too much beading) maybe I do a second page in English.

    Hi Darmar and welcome.

I went and  took a look at your work and I just loved it I especialy loved the silver crosses. Nice work on all.

I lived in the Bitburg area from 1973 till 1976. I have forgotten most of the Germany I once knew. Sad  I was only able to pick up a word or two but that is okay I enjoyed just looking.Geeked

Nice work Darmar, and hi from Northern Italy!  Where do you live in Southern Germany? My hubby is travelling there as we speak.  He's spending the night in Garmisch, actually.  I love Germany.  Haven't been able to see as much as I'd like, but everywhere we've visited has been wonderful.

Look forward to chatting with you.

Thanks for your note and pass on my Congratulations to your parents! Anything over 15-20 years today is really something.

Have you traveled to the US before? I have not travel out of the US although I have traveled alot within the US. Maybe someday my husband & I can travel abroad. Since my mother's family is from Ireland, I think that would be my first choice. With my pale skin and red hair, finally someplace that I would fit in...

    Good Luck and Thanks!

    Hi Sue,

thank you! The silver crosses were my first attempt in wirework and they turned out really nice. I like them because they are versatile depending on which gemstone or beads you include.

Did you work in Bitburg? And did you visit other places in Germany? I think it is normal to forget a language you don't use. My English is ok because I use it at work but my French vanishes more an more. What a shame!

    Hi Sheila,

yes, that's what I think. Living so many years in a relationship is really an achievement.

I travelled the US before because I got relatives in DC and Boston and also in San Francisco (but didn't visit them yet). When I was in DC I also made a short trip to Baltimore and Ocean City. What I loved best were the ocean and the Smithsonian museums in Washington. You shoul really come to Europe. I only travelled to England but a friend told me that Ireland is wonderful with its people and the landscape. But the continent is also not bad: France, Italy, Spain, the Scandinavian countries oand Germany of course.....I think it depends on what you like and what you want to see.

    Hi Jeni,

thank you! I live in a small town close to Stuttgart. Which places did you already visit in Germany? There are so many beautiful places. If you like to go to the Lake Constance area, give me a call, because I lived there for about seven years and still love it. And do you like Italy? Did you already find some nice Venetian glass beads which are not tourist-priced?

I'd like to have a look at your gallery but couldn't open it. Maybe I have another try with my pc at home.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Re: Hello from Southern Germany!

    Hi Dagmar,

We've been many places in Germany, mainly in the Western & Southern areas.  We've been from Aachen and Cologne all the way down to Berchtesgaden, and over to Sachsenring to see the Moto GP race a couple years ago (we are huge racing fans).  I haven't been to Lake Constance yet, but my husband has and says it's beautiful.  One of these days I'll get there too.  My husband has seen a bit more than I have but we both enjoy it.  We just recently moved from Belgium (near Mons) to the Aviano area.  My hubby is in the military if you hadn't already guessed.  We love France and Spain as well-we've really enjoyed everywhere we've visited.  The toughest part of travelling in Europe is remembering what language you're supposed to be trying to speak.  I know little bits of French, Spanish, German & Italian, and I get them all mixed up when I try to say anything!

Yes, I found a small family-owned jewelry making business that has let me purchase some beads from them.  I only bought a few, but they said I can come any time and buy some.  The mother is also learning to make her own lampwork beads, and she gave me a short demonstration.   Hopefully I can ask them where in Venice to go and not get gouged on the price next time we're there.

Apple was making some changes to their websites with the new iPhone launch, and I think the galleries were inaccessible for a couple days.  I just tried it and it worked for me so hopefully you can look.  I'm going to be adding some more photos in the next day or so as well.

Sheila, I'll warn you right now that if you visit Ireland you won't want to leave.  The leprechauns sprinkle pixie dust on you when you sleep that makes you want to stay forever.Wink You can't believe how green it is until you've seen it yourself, and there's plently of green places in the world.

    Re: Hello from Southern Germany!

    Hi Dagmar,

When I was in the Bitburg area it was because my husband was stationed at Spangdalem. We spent a total of 7 years in Europe. We were in Germany for 3 1/2 yars and the Netherlands for 3 1/2 years. My children were 7 and 5 when we arrived and 12 and 14 when we departed. They knew a lot more of the language then I but children do pick up a second language faster then us adults. I used to use a few words when we first returned; usually to get my boys attention without embarrassing them in public. You know how teens sort of push the envolope.Wink Gee I can't beleive my boys are now in their 40's.

I didn't work outside the home but I did sewing for others and made a little extra cash.

We did do a lot a traveling while there. We often went to the Stuttgart area. One summer we spent several weeks camping at The US Air Force Base just outside of Stuttgart. I remember that summer well. We had a German map and we went on the trail of castles that they had outlined on the German road map. It was a lot of fun. I also went a day tours as often as I could. Have been to the basket factory and shoe factory in your area and the cystal factory near Frankfurt.

We also did travels in Spain, France, Luxenburg, and Belgium. It has been almost 30 years since I have returned statesde and I would love to revisit all those places again.

My Grandson was able to go to Cologne three years ago for "World Youth Day".  He made very good friends with some locals and dreams of returning someday. He was 16 and was very impressed with the whole thing. Especialy the mass transit system. We live in the country where you have several different forms of transit (car, bike or walk) none of which is mass transit.

    Re: Hello from Southern Germany!

I just have to say, I love Cologne!  The cathedral is my favorite one of all, and I LOVE Gothic cathedrals.  I built a paper model of it in Jr. High that took 6 months, and it was always my dream to visit there.  I could hardly believe it when I actually got to see it in person.  It is MASSIVE.  Any photo you see doesn't do it justice.  The Christmas markets are a lot of fun too.

I almost forgot about Luxembourg.  My uncle actually found out we still have family that lives there.  I was able to go and meet several relatives I didn't know I had, even though they were a couple times removed.  Turns out we have less distant family in Northern Ireland too.  Ooh, an excuse to go back!
