Hi, my name's Kathy and I've been a 'self-taught' beadweaver for about 6 years. I've

been 'out of the loop' of computer technology for awhile, so i'm trying to 'catch-up' on

the whole idea of forums/blogs/and websites...i'll soon be experimenting with photo-

graphing my beadwork, so that maybe i can show it to other people online. I LOVE

to peyote stitch (both flat and tubular) and just love beads in general, working with

colors and patterns...i'm also an amatuer 'lapidarist'(is that a word?), carving rocks

and semi-precious gems...my 'specialty' is carving opal leaves...they look wonderful

as an addition to beadwork..!anyway, i look forward to communicating and contributing

with fellow bead lovers...hope to 'chat' soon

Kathy Coulter.

Hi Kathy and welcome from another Cathy but with a C.  I am self taught, too, but a self taught stringer.  I love weaving but don't have the patience for it and recently the eyesight (I've reached the magical age where I now need help to see the small things).  I'd LOVE to see some of your opal leaves.  I love opal.  Here's a link on how to post pictures that Pam did

http://www.beadingdaily.com/forums/t/3936.aspx

Enjoy the forum.  There are a lot of nice, helpful people.

Welcome Kathy! ok if we call  you Kat? there are several Cathy/Cathi's around here, so Kat would make it easier to identify you. Well, it would for me anyway. Glad to have you joining us. I'm also a self taught stringer, though I have done a very few woven pieces. I still prefer the stringing techs. Come in, post often, and soon you'll have lots of beady friends.

Kathy, Welcome! Hope you will join us often. Try to post those carved opal leaf pics! Carved gemstone beads are one of my weaknesses......just one....LOL.

Kathy I just want to welcome you to the family of BD. We are a bunch of friendly helpful beaders. We love helping others with answers to their questions. So if you have a question or an answer just jump in when ever you feel the calling.

I am also a self taught beader. I started out about ( I can't seem to remember exactly when it was that I first started) 6 or 7 years ago doing the stringing thing. I than taught myself how to do peyote, and many different stitches since then. I still string some, but my true love is both off loom weaving and wire work. I just recently taught myself how to do the Russian leaves that I have admired for some years now, but was slightly intimidated by them. What fun they are. I have made about a dozen leaves this past week.

Hi Kat, nice to meet you!  You would actually be an amateur "lapidary", and I'd love to see some of your opal leaves.  Opals are my favorite-probably explains why I love dichroic glass so much.
