    advances beginner??

Hi! I'm Laura Willoughby and am of couse new to the forum.  I live in Mississippi so beading materials and lessons aren't readily avaiable.. I learned the little bit bit that I doknow fromworking for ar and artisan jeweler for a few months [she taught me wrapped loop, how to close off simple necklaces, some info about the different stones etc], and I've learned from magazines and online as well. Although I get frustrated at many of the patterns from from magazines because so often they call for 1 or 2 itemsthrroughout the pettern.  For example:  1 amber potato pearl, 1 rainforest jasper 6 mm round, etc.

Enough griping, I really do love tis hobby and am glad to have found this blog Any suggestion will be greatlyappreated.

    Thannks

Welcome Laura. Glad to have you joining us. A word of advice, edit your post to remove your last name and your email address. You don't want spam bots to grab it and start inundating your inbox. And it's just plain safer. ANyway, yeah, I hear you on designs in the magazines calling for one or two beads of 10+ different items. That's where having built up a stash comes in handy. On the other hand, so often the designs feature unique beads that are not really possible to find... that's worse to me.

Anyway, Come join us often, we have lots of fun. And the group is really friendly.

But that's where  innovation comes in, You substitute from what you have, and make it your own, instead of just a copy of someone else's!

True Stan! On the other hand, it usually annoys me NOT because I can't replicate a design, but because that bead would be PERFECT for something else!

     Laura,

I can't imagine not being able to drive to a bead store....hopefully, you can find some online stores so you can "feed the need to bead". There have been lots of stores mentioned in this forum, and I'm sure if you look at past posts or start a new one, you'll find lots of possibilities open. There are plenty of online patterns and tutorials, too.

Check out some of the options available on this site also. Welcome and Happy beading!

    Laura and Lois,

I hear you about your frustration with magazine patterns. Try owning a bead store and being expected to carry every item used in every pattern in every beading magazine ever printed!

    Hi Laura,

a warm welcome from across the pond! Glad you joined us here on BD. This community is fascinating, helpful and creative, so ask questions and you'll get an answer for sure. I love looking at patterns in magazines, but almost at once an idea for my own design comes to my mind. I think about my own bead stash and tell myself: Oh, I don't have this bead, but that bead from my stash would look great! So maybe this could also be a source of inspiration for: to create with what you have.

So I hope you have as much fun here as we others do! Talk to you soon!
