Okay, so you want to see more? This is, in my own opinion, one of the best pieces I've made in my entire beading career.
I've alluded to it in my last Kumi posting - the materials are faceted peridot briolettes (4mm x 5 mm), 4mm black onyx, 2.5mm black onyx and 2mm vermeil seamless rounds. The end caps and clasp are Hill Tribe silver, plated in gold (in other words, vermeil).
Because of the combination of larger and smaller beads, and how I placed them on the board, the braid is truly square - something completely unexpected.

Beautiful work! I love how you've incorporated the briolettes into the kumihimo.

Lita, your work in Kumihimo is just gorgeous. When will you be touring Michigan? I want to learn to make these beautiful pieces.
I agree with Stan I thought you were the Professional. I can not tell you enough how much I have enjoyed seeing your Kumihimo pieces. Please post as many pictures of them as you want. I personaly can not wait to see the next one. Each one is an art in itself.
I went the other day looking for a Kumihimo plate. I went to Hobby Lobby and to Craft 2000 and they didn't have any idea of what I was talking about. I did find a pattern online for a DIY plate and I have printed it out, but now I have to find directions for a simple cord to get my feet wet. I will be surfing the web today in my search. Wish me luck!!! I will post back with anything I find so that others wanting more information on it will have what I find.
Again I want to see more so don't stop.

Sue, I think Bead & Button has basic kumi instructions, and I know the last issue (Oct/Nov) has 2 articles about it.

Lynn - Which book did you order? That one sounds like either one of Jacqui Carey's or Roderick Owen's books.
WOOOOW.... Yeah, I can see why this one is your favorite. I can only imagine how much it catches the light IRL.... So stunning. Hope you have a great black dress and a good party to wear this to this holliday season!
Lois
Yes...it is by Jacqui Carey.....Beginners guide to Braiding (The craft of Kumihimo)... I borrowed it from the Library to check it out....liked what I saw and ordered it.....I also have an intermediate level book on order on Inter-Library Loan....don't know the name of that one...the Librarian picked it from a large list...!!!! ordered it 2 weeks ago, but it can take up to 6 weeks for these loans to come in.....will let you know what I end up with...lol... Guess you must have some Kumi books also then....what do you have and do you recommend anything in particular....?
I have that book - I haven't used it though. It's geared for a traditional marudai and tama set up, and it takes a bit of work to translate the patterns to a hand-held disc. Now that I'm really comfortable with the whole process, I need to take the next step and try some of the different patterns.
Holy cow! Look at all those peridot brios!
That must have cost a fortune. Very high end--terrific work. I love seeing all your kumi projects too, and am getting more curious about finding out more about it, even though its not my typical M.O.
