    Vellux by the yard?

Does anyone know where to get Vellux (the beading mat fabric) by the yard? I can't seem to find it either in stores or online, and the Vellux blankets I've seen aren't always quite the same weight as what we beaders are used to. Any secret sources?

I was just searching the internet this morning. I didn't find any sources by the yard on line.

I wonder,if it is called something else?

I would love to know where to buy Vellux by the yard also.

Hi, I think that Vellux is a brand name for the blankets.  The material is called something else, what it is called I don't know.  I called my sister (a quilt maker) thinking that she would know fabrics and she said fleese.  Fleese comes in different thickness, but I am not sure that is the same as the beading mats.

I haven't been able to find the material at a fabric store.  I went to a discount store and just bought a blanket and cut it up to make mats.

Hi, I had to go to the book store to pick up a book I ordered and took along my bead mat.  I dropped into Joann's and the closest they had was their Blizzard and Artic fleese. It was almost the same except for the thickness was about 1/2 that of the bead mat $7.99 per yard.  Maybe if you search Vellux fabric you might find somthig?  I would myself but DH is taking me out and is getting inpaitient with me being on the computer, LOL.  Sorry that I couldn't be more help.

Fleece isn't the same. When washed, fleece has a tendency to make "pills" and gets very soft. Vellux is more like velvet and doesn't get "pilled". It tends to hold its shape better than fleece and is more durable than velvet.

I know vellux has to be available by the yard, *somewhere* - I bought several pre-cut 4' lengths (the ends were hemmed, but not the sides) to use on our class table in the old store. I'll check with the fabric store where I bought it and see if they have it by the yard instead of in 4' lengths. I need a sheet that will cover our "new" 4x8 ft classroom table.

If I get any answers, I'll let you know!

It's basically a fabric that's put together with several different fabrics. I know it's made with Terylene.

IN all my searches for it myself I have only found suppliers in China and those were bulk factories.

I think the best thing to do is buy a Vellux blanket and cut it up into rectangles for bead mats. You can get them pretty cheap at Walmart or Target and even department stores have good sales on them like Kohls or JCPenney.

    Good Luck!

Your Right There Inca, I agree, "Cat would have to be a Saint" to survive the Daily routine alone.  She can be your Saint too.
