SandyA:
Hi, I think that Vellux is a brand name for the blankets. The material is called something else, what it is called I don't know. I called my sister (a quilt maker) thinking that she would know fabrics and she said fleese. Fleese comes in different thickness, but I am not sure that is the same as the beading mats.
Fleece isn't the same. When washed, fleece has a tendency to make "pills" and gets very soft. Vellux is more like velvet and doesn't get "pilled". It tends to hold its shape better than fleece and is more durable than velvet.
I know vellux has to be available by the yard, *somewhere* - I bought several pre-cut 4' lengths (the ends were hemmed, but not the sides) to use on our class table in the old store. I'll check with the fabric store where I bought it and see if they have it by the yard instead of in 4' lengths. I need a sheet that will cover our "new" 4x8 ft classroom table.
If I get any answers, I'll let you know!
