    Still Around

    Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know I'm still around.  It's been a busy, crazy few weeks.  I'm IT now but I was clerical and HR backup.  When I became IT, someone else became HR backup.  She was messing up the payroll so badly when she did it, I got it back.  Don't you love how that works - when others can't or won't do their jobs, the work comes to me who already does 105% at work....  The HR person left 2 weeks ago so I'm now HR.  At least most of my IT duties have been given to my back-up but she still needs some help here and there.  Supposedly I have only 1 more week - the new person should start next Mon.  I'll probably have to do a little training, but it'll be so nice to have my own duties  back.  I know payroll more/better than HR.

Thursday a week ago, we found that my grandfather is having mini-strokes so he decided to give his car to us - it's 9 years old with 42,000 miles on it.  He has Alzheimer's and my mom has POA and all she asked is that we pay for 1/2 the cost to fix it up (he'd let some things go since the Alzheimer's diagnosis).  She wanted the repairs to be made before we got it because they live 2 hours from us and she didn't want anything to happen to us in that car on the way home.  My grandfather giving us this car turned out to be such a good thing (more on that later).

Last weekend was the church and school fair.   We were there, walking around and watching the boys ride the rides for 2 1/2 hours each day then I worked 6 1/2 hours Sat and 4 1/2 hours Sunday.  I'm still tired....  But, the church grossed only $2,500 less than last year and last year was the best year ever - not bad in this economy (the "bad stuff" is just hitting here).

My van is 13 years old and is starting to give us some trouble (we've had it for 7 years).  DH can use his work truck for personal business and we have (had) a pick up truck my grandfather sold to us.  It was 10 years old with only 20,000 miles on it and in the last 6 years, we put less than 14,000 miles on it.  We've kept it for when my van is acting up or if someone else in the family needs to borrow it.  My van was in the shop last weekend and when  I got home from working the fair last Satuday night, we went to go pick it up in the personal truck.  I drove straight home in the van.  DH went to put gas in the truck and a drunk driver turned right in front of him  -  totaled the truck.  Thank God DH was only banged up, not hurt badly.  We got more from the insurance than we thought - almost double!!!  We were very happy  and surprised about that (I guess the low mileage helped).  We don't know if the other guy had insurance.  Our insurance is treating it like uninsured motorist.  If he does have insurance, we will get our deductible back, too.  This is where it was a good thing my grandfather gave us his car.  We won't need the truck as much now that we will have a more reliable car.  But DH is quite upset about losing his truck.  I'll miss my van but, again, it'll be nice to have something more reliable.

We spent all of yesterday going to my mom, ste-father's and grandfather's to get the car then coming back home.  I'm going to try to catch up on the postings.  But tomorrow starts another work week.....

Just wanted to let you all know I'm still here and have missed you!

Cathy - WOW! A ton going on for you! First, sorry to hear about our grandfather. I hope that they can figure out what is going on to try to get the mini-strokes under control if possible. Glad that hubby was not hurt in the wreck! That can be so scary!

It is amzaing how things have a way of working out ( getting a vehicle when you loose one ). Congrats on that!

I wish you the best with work! I understand taking on more & more of a work load. Been there done that several times! We just have to be very thankful for a job in this economy!

Anyway, glad that you checked back in with us! Please don't stay away so long next time!

Boy you weren't kidding ...BUSY, CRAZY( do you hear strains of the song Mi Vida Loca going through your head?)

Sorry about your gandfather he'll be in my prayers as will your whole family.

Glad that your DH wasn't hurt, I would still be shook up myself. I don't know about your DH but I get sort of attached to my little cars and when I had to stop driving and had to sell mine it was sad. It was a little red GEO.[:'(] I miss him/her?

I hope work will get less hectic for you. I know what you're talking about though-it never failed I'd have to do my work plus someone else's. I think bosses do that because they know if they give it to you it WILL get done regardless of how busy you are with everything else they've given you.

I'm glad you took the time to drop in on us today. Drop in again soon we'll still be here.

Boy that's a lot going on all at once, but seems like you've been smiled upon just a bit as well!  Glad to hear your hubby is ok.  My sis's hubby was just in an uninsured motorist accident last week.  Thankfully he wasn't hurt, but their car was totaled also.  At least their insurance covered it and they were able to buy another car quickly.

Here's hoping your grandfather's strokes get under control and that your job gets a little less crazy!  I can empathize with doing more than your assigned duties also.  I've done it for more than one employer.

My goodness Cathy! Life DOES seem to have filled right up for you. Glad that work seems to be heading in a better direction for you and that perhaps life will slow just a bit. Good to have you back, even if all you're able to do is lurk!

    Re: Still Around

Thanks, y'all.  I'm still around.  DH's grandmother passed away late last week so this weekend was visiting with his aunt on his dad's side who was in from Wichita, KS and the services for his grandmother ( which went into yesterday) so another weekend was full.  This was a tough one.  This grandmother helped raise him after his dad left his mom and younger brother when they were 5 and 2 and DH was this grandmother's  favorite.  DH has had a hard time.  I haven't forgotten you all!!!  I'm sure hoping things will settle down soon and I can catch up on the posts.  I miss you.

Wow, Cathy, bless your heart, I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's grandmother's passing.  Death is never easy, no matter the age or health of the person who dies.  I'm not surprised to hear that it's been especially hard on your DH since he was so close to her.  Gotta tell you, one of the hardest days I've ever had to get through was my husband's grandmother's funeral.  It just tore me up inside to see my tough guy shedding tears.  Pretty much the only thing I could do was be there for him.

With everything going on, I'll bet you're an expert on multi-tasking!  I hope the doctors are able to find some relief for your grandfather's strokes.  Cathy, you and your family are in my prayers.

    Have a beadiful day!
