white coral heishi; 1x8mm very thin Dics/Wafers

Hi to all, I've spent lots of time on ebay and on Google searching bead suppliers and cannot find any yet that carry white coral heishi in the specific size I need. My blue denim coral project is in need of a few thin discs/wafers of white coral heishi in 1X8MM. The closest I found is 2X10MM, close but twice as thick as my project requires. If anyone knows of any please do not hesitate to pass it on. Thanks! Nostradamus

Hi - I don't have a source for you, but have you thought about sanding down the too-thick discs?  I don't know how you are planning to used them (I kind of get the feeling that they will be backed by another material), but if one side is lying flat, then you can get them down to the thickness you need using a salon board type nail file, and not have to worry that one side is not highly polished.

1mm is pretty thin - other than some poor quality keishi pearls, I don't think I've ever seen an 8mm disc that thin. I don't know if that material would be stable that thin.

    Hope this helps,

    Lita

Hi Lita, nice to meet you. Coffee Thanks for taking time for my inquiry. That's more than alright that you don't have a source because the fun is in the hunting down and all you see along the way and all the wonderful people you'll meet. I also believe that people respect if you try very hard for yourself first and ask hellp as a last resort. I hope we can be friends here and wish you the best of luck on your latest work. Yes

In response- very early on I did set aside the thought of things like sanding down the coral discs I found that are not right, I can wait. In fact I found their name for what I need. Chiatelle is the Italian name and they are very simply coral washers/spacers of various diameters and thicknesses in mm. My latest project I mentioned is this graduated denim coral strand that might look fabulous with the accent of a few of either white, red or even apple coral chiatelles in differering diameters and that will share the 1mm thickness. I can always also use a variety of shell heishi spacers - and I can agree that any material that's 1X8mm is getting thin and care is needed to maintain. Wish me luck. Cool

Sorry, haven't seen anything but metal at that thin-ness.... even my shell heshi beads average more along the lines of 2mms.... good luck!

Hi Nostradamus, I purchased some white heishi eads which are 1x3 at alltribes.com.  I'm not sure if that's what your are looking for but they have a lot of heishi beads.

I don't have the white coral heishi, BUT - I have white clam shell pukalet that comes pretty close to what you need. Some are about 1mm, going to almost 2mm. However, they are approx 7mm in diameter instead of 8mm.

If you are interested, e-mail me off list for details.

Hi Nostradamus!  I tried looking on Google.it, searching for chiatelle, but I think the only link that was about coral was your post, LOL.

Hi Cathi, I think that may be because I had mis-spelled it, its correctly spelled 'chiatelle" - rats I did it again, no really - "chiattelle" and with two t's not one. Embarrassed I found a list using Google of trade terms/jargon on this Italian coral website - and its good for more than just this list, they are manufacturers, their site is vincenzosantalucia - I probably mis-spelled something in there too! TY. Coffee

Still pleasantly surprised tonight in seeing more than one member has been taking time in helping me locate my latest items on the list. Wow this really works and I'm very glad to be the newest of members and had a feeling and that's why I joined. Thank you and I'm going to consider all these possibilities and maybe one or two others. Its been funny amazing what beads you otherwise wouldn't find by using Google - how about vintage Ostrich egg disks at about 1MM thick. I think not too. I did see that alltribes had the 1X3 heishi and thanks for reminding me LinaG. My thought before I wrote this was that if there was 1X3MM there may be some 1X8 or closer out there as well and I now doubt anybody is calling it 'chiattelle' as the term heishi or heishe or even keishi all mean thinner beads of various shapes and this term prevails all throughout out our bead community here in the U.S.  I am starting to consider that 2x8mm is going to be more stable thanks to the great advice from all my ladies here! Hope to keep you all posted and I'll consider you're offer very seriously Deb, so...what else you got at that store of your's? I'll bet some nice little treasures. Surprise TY.

I'm glad we could all help.  Once you are done with your project, post a picture so that we can see how it came out.

Re: white coral heishi; 1x8mm very thin Dics/Wafers

Hmm - what do I have besides the pukalet? Let's see - there's FW, glass and shell pearls, semi-precious and precious stone beads, Czech fire polished, seed beads (Czech from 6/0 to 14/0, Delicas and Toho 15/0), bugle beads frin 1/4" to 1" (including some vintage bugles made in Czechoslovakia in the 1930's or 40's), Swarovski and lots of other glass beads. I've got some lampwork beads by Linda Waller - we're the only store in the country to have her beads. We've got a shipment of bone, and hairpipe beads en route.

We've got Baltic amber, Sleeping Beauty turquoise including calibrated cabochons, labradorite, amethyst and emerald, as well as the usual jaspers, agates, jades and quartzes. One vendor who visited before we moved said that we carry more stone beads than 80% of the stores she visits!

I've got the usual BeadSmith tools, as well as tools from EuroTool and Grobet. We've got Beadalon, SoftFlex, Nymo, FireLine, PowerPro, DandyLine, Wildfire, Silamide, artificial sinew, and silk. We've got bead spinners, needles, scissors, thread burners, bead reamers and more!

For wire, we've got sterling, copper and all kinds of colored wire in the common gauges. In sterling, we have square, round and half round, as well as step bezel wire and twisted wire in a couple of gauges.

We just got our first shipment of display items - busts, trays, tray dividers, ring displays, T-bars, gift boxes, and more. DH MIke just got a bunch of photos on the website and I'm working on getting the price list finished so I can send it out if people inquire. We will sell at wholesale prices to anyone with valid jewelry/craft related business licenses in any state, as well as to LBS and other retailers. I price matched with FMG the other day and found that my wholesale prices beat FMG's 200+ assortable price - with no minimum $ order and no minimum number of items. I didn't think to compare my each prices to FMG's, mainly because I'm assuming that our online orders are going to be mostly wholesale.

Think there are any treasures in there? *I* think the whole store is a treasure, but then again, I'm only *slightly* prejudiced!Wink

Hey - you've got all kinds of fun stuff there and your customers surely appreciate this along with the fabulous customer service you and DH also surely provide. Best of luck Deb but I'm not sure you need it?

Well, the search for some coral heishi in these sizes has been slow going past few days but I'm staying positive and still considering alternatives. Here's a pic of what I have so far. It needs...something, don't you agree?

The blue denim coral graduated strand I purchased from Allison at estatebeads.com, she's a professional and she's one of the first places you need to visit if vintage coral is your thing too.

The blue denim coral rounds are vintage U.S. stock. - were also recently ordered from Allison. The larger rounds at 9MM are hand carved from the 1970's - they have ridges hand carved into them as well, looking much like the popular 'melon.' The smaller rounds at 8MM are also hand carved from the 70's.

I've ordered (2) more 9MM rounds, they are going to replace (2) 8MM rounds a few inches down - and I'm moving (1) 8MM round to the very end to finish the strand for now. It's beauty lies somewhat in the simplicity it now has but I'd like something to compliment (color maybe) and that will add an extra touch of creativity (more coral!!) it seems to me is lacking at the moment. Its at 18" and a perfect choker length for a man right now and is why I want to limit any more length added. Thanks beadingdaily. Big Smile Nosty

I agree it needs a little extra something, but I'm thinking metal-what about some brass, gold or copper heishi spacers?  I know you really love the coral heishi idea, but that's the thing that first came to mind for me.  It wouldn't take but a few strategically placed to make it work, and you can get thin, flat disc spacers that aren't like the daisy variety if it's designed for a guy.  Don't know if that helps, but it's my 2 cents.  Good luck-the coral is lovely!

I agree, the coral is absolutely lovely!!!  I would love to use that to make a kumi bracelet.  But Jeni i correct, you need to add something to make it pop...some silver or bronze spacers or maybe taking out one round coral bead and adding a silver or bronze one in the middle.
