    Site HiJack attempt?

    A heads-up on a possible 'hijack attempt':

I would click on Beading Daily in my bookmarks [Firefox] and the forums would flash on my screen, and be replaced with a blank page, containing a 'box'.  In the upper left coner of the box was a tiny box with something in it.  Upon clicking on that tiny box, I was transferred to "My Bead Barrel"  (Or was it "My Beading Barrel"?).  I finally typed in the basic URL [beadingdaily.com] and eventually got to the forums again.  I have since deleted te BD bookmark, and then reBookMarked it.  Hope that settles it.

OOPS!  Tried to go directly back to :Forums" and same failure -- had to re-eat p0rocedure to get back here.

    Re: Site HiJack attempt?

Funny that you should mention this. For the past 2 days, when i have come to the site, I have been logged out and I had to login again in order to get to my tools and such. This has NEVER happened before except when I've cleared cookies out and whatnot because I choose NOT to logout. I use Ie mainly because that's what the rest of the family is comfortable with, but I also have it locked up pretty tight. I don't allow redirects and such nonsense so I would natually go to the login page instead of somewhere offsite. If i understand the workings of the site like I think that I do, a failed login attempt from a user will automatically log them out if they are already logged in. At least that is the way other sites that i have worked on and moderated have done. I don't think it was as much as a hijack attempt on the site as it might have been trying to hijack usernames. Maybe we can get one of the Techs to check recent login records and see if there were any failed attempts from an oddball IP addy for anyone. Maybe.

    Billy,

The trouble started this AM at the local coffee shop; same thing when I got home.  (I use a laptop with wireless card.)  Tried DW's computer at home, no problem; turned off laptop, pulled plug, pulled battery, put battery back, connected to powerline, restarted laptop, AOK.   Must have picked up a glitch somewhere.  Will need to remember how I solved this.

Didn't either work !!!  Angry Super Angry Confused ???

Only works on occasion.  May need to wipe ALL memory, and find a legal copy of XP-SP3 to load.;  Yuckkky - all my programs.  Waaaaaah [:'(]

Dang, a bookmark hijacking. Sorry to hear this, you guys.

Type the whole URL http://www.beadingdaily.com to see if you can discourage this from happening. I keep a Word document from which I can copy and paste long URLS and email addresses too. Bookmarks are handy but at least a copy and paste will be faster than keying in an URL each time.

I thought it was just me. In my firefox, it has a "fill in" for most used sites and I don't see how to get rid of the bookmarks. It still comes up with a box with a red dot in the corner. I'd like to see Bead Barrel IN a barrel, as in "shooting fish in" for this aggravation! I'm thinking of visiting Bead Barrel, just to give them a piece of my mind, but I don't have that much to spare! <LOL>

Anyone got babysteps to walk me through how to get rid of the dang thing? Please?? Pretty PLEASE???

Deb - frustrated as all get out!

edited to add - I just went to the My Bead Barrel site and told them I was not pleased with their hijacking attempt - especially after fighting it all day. If I'm not mistaken, MBB has a banner advertisement on a BD e-mail.

    Re: Site HiJack attempt?

I also just sent them a nasty e-mail. I told them how they were angering members of BD and that I for only one would never buy from them just for this low move on their part. I asked them if they  thought that buy hi jacking BD would win them friends and customers? Surely not!!!!

I know very little about the rules of fair play on the internet, but can't BD clear this all up and put a stop to this? I am sure their must be a law against this type of activity. How low can some people get in order to gain customers?

I think that if everyone that belongs to BD were to send them an e-mail and telling them to stop we could shut their mail box down with all the messages. We have many members and if we show our anger in numbers maybe they will fix this and leave us alone. We are strong if we stand together. If all were to send them an e-mail and tell them that their actions will not win them over as customers. LETS LET THEM KNOW OF OUR ANGER ABOUT HI JACKING BD

I have the same problem, but when I hit the back button, I return to the BD site. But that's a bit of a pain in the ***.

I have been having the same issues.  A real pain.  I'll have to see about re-bookmarking or doing something else, because I have so many programs on this computer (not to mention thousands of photos) that there is no way I'm gonna wipe my memory!!!

    Hope this gets resolved soon.

    Re: Site HiJack attempt?

     Good morning,

I visited the MBB the other day via the newsletter link.  I did not sign up for newsletter or anything else.  I did note that there were no beads for sale at the 2 links I perused.

I have not had the problem y'all have.  I did clear all temp pages and history after that visit, perhaps that is what saved me.  I do not clear this stuff daily, just got lucky that day.

I love Beadingdaily!  I am not happy that someone is trying to steal us.

    Peace and love,

    Diane

    Re: Site HiJack attempt?

Leslie, I deleted my bookmark and have been typing in the address and that does not help. Is it possible for your techs to remove this? It is such a pain in the --- to keep hitting the back button. I don't think I will be visiting as often as long as this is going on. I love Beading Daily and will truely miss it, but I can't stand the hassel to get around this problem.Super Angry

With my old computer I could go and delete my cookies, but with this new Vista I can't find where I can do this. If anyone can guide this computer dummy through the steps maybe I can clear my cookies. Has anyone else cleared their cookies and does it get rid of the problem?

I think I will take my computer (laptop) over to my grandson in law and see what he can do. He knows a lot about computers.

I hope someone can fix this problem. I really don't think clearing the cookies will help because this is the only site that the problem occurs. I really think that BD has to fix it at their end. Of course I could be wrong I often am.Big Smile

Well I'm glad that I'm not the only one with this problem.  Yesterday I could read 1 page of a post but if I tried to go forward or back I got the "broken box", today I can hit the Back button & actually read posts.

I am at work now and the problem is not showing it's ugly face here. Could it be that the Exployer brouser isn't affected by this problem or has someone fixed it?

Silverior is this a problem that has to be fixed from my computer or fixed by BD web manager? It only shows it's ugly face at BD. I would think that if this were our personal computers it would show itself at all the places we go to on the internet.      Like I side earlier I am a complete computer dummy so that might sound like a stupid question.
