Re: Could things possibly get any worse UGH!

     Thanks Pam :)

The stuff to the accountant was due Sept 15 which I would have been fine to get it in late- I do this every year. Usually as long as I have everything there a week before Oct 15th they are fine with getting our stuff done.

The recall didn't fix the fridge unfortunately- service tech is coming today to diagnose and then we'll know if we can afford to get it fixed or just look on Craigslist for a cheap used one until we can.

    Deb :
This guy is WAY over the top

I thought so too Deb, unprofessional to say the least. I don't care who you are, it doesn't give someone the right to be rude to people!

    Deb :
faxes must be followed with a hard copy (usually certified when an audit is involved).

Well he finally mailed some paperwork on TUESDAY!

I figured there was some sort of procedures to follow and it didn't seem like this guy was. He's been rather arrogant about everything and for what reason I don't know. I told Steve that guy can shove it for all I care- he's been rude and disrespectful. I moved my beading table out of the office- the little 6 ft it took up out of the 15'X15' room it's in- and my husband said " I need that table in here for him to work on" I told my husband, "ask him can we write off a table that we will have to go buy for him to use!" He wasn't too concerned about giving us enough time to gather materials so why in the world should I be concerned about him needing a table to work on. He can work on the tiny table I have for bedside beading- it's about the size of a students desk in school, 12"X18" that is.

The office is fine otherwise- I removed my beading stuff. It is really just an office- no playroom, guestroom or any other sort of room. Obviously I work at home and the kids do come in there while I work and at the same time carry stuff in with them- it all gets taken back out. We have a white board on our one wall and my 7 year old loves playing teacher on it. In that little space where the white board is she had a few things over there, her "teaching" books basically but that's all been removed. I've been getting after her for months about that anyway. Basically the total amount of any personal stuff that was in there filled a small basket. I think the office is fine myself. If I ever get pics I'll email them to you!

UGH- I'm rather disgusted by this person and it's probably better that I am not here for the audit cause I think I might fly off at the mouth with some inappropriate comments and smart remarks. Of course I probably need to be anyway cause my husband doesn't have the first clue about any of this.

I just want this all to be over!

Cat, I have two quotes for you, dealing with people like this guy:

Kill them with kindness! (I think, this was from Lita here on BD)

Be polite, be professional and have a plan to kill (ofc ONLY in mind) every single one in the room! (this one is from a co-worker and since he told me about it, my alarm bells ring every time he is extra-friendly to other people *laughz*)

Don't take me too serious with these two quotes, but I tried it and it helps a lot in some situations. Some co-workers already asked me, how I can smile at someone being rude or impolite to me. It's all a question of practice!

But don't get me wrong, this guy has absolutely no right to be rude or anything. This may just be an advice of how to deal with such people without getting down to their level yourself.

Re: Could things possibly get any worse UGH!

Ok a bit of an update on everything-

The audit was Monday and everything so far has checked out fine. They will return on November 3rd to finish checking on some things. I have been so stressed about all this so I'll be glad when it's all said and done with.

We're still not doing well financially but I'm trying to keep the thoughts that I guess things could be worse. I'm just not used to not having a paycheck for myself and really have to watch what I spend when I grocery shop. Of course the season is changing which means our two year old needs new clothes. At least with the older ones they usually have some stuff they can still wear from the previous year. They wear uniforms to school and luckily I bought enough of those at the end of the summer so they get by with uniforms during the week and the weekends they have enough from the previous year to wear. As well as some hand me downs from a girl my sister babysits.

In relation to financial things, I mentioned things could be worse- well I found out something last night about a friend that I would rather just not mention in an open forum but I'm glad my life hasn't gotten to that point. This person was obviously doing very bad but didn't let on to anyone. So news of this- I couldn't sleep last night.

Kids are pretty much healthy again except the other twin has now been coughing since Mid September and it won't seem to go away. It didn't seem like anything serious but over the past few days she's been congested as well. So between the coughing and mucous, it's making her vomit. Another reason I had no sleep last night- I was up with her constantly.

I don't remember if I mentioned it in my first post but our refridgerator went on the fritz. Well it cost nearly $400 to fix, then of course it had to be completely restocked with everything we lost.

My van did magically start running again though. Don't know what's going on with it- it runs fine for a minute then it starts acting crazy. Unless it's doing it's acting up thing, you can't tell what's wrong with it when put on a computer. My neighbor mentioned some kind of sensor. Anyway I'm happy it's running for the moment.

We thought for a minute our water heater was going out too but that turned out that someone turned the dial down so our water was barely warm enough to keep you from freezing to death in the shower.

Workers comp issue is only getting worse now. On Monday during our IRS audit our benefit management company called to tell us this guy is now trying for surgery on his rotator cuff and requesting 3 months total disability. Please- this started with a bruised elbow and sprained wrist and it's magically taken a toll on his already arthritic shoulder that he needs surgery on his rotator cuff. The lady that called me was furious with this claim and said she will fight it for us and recommended with this additional claim that he should be sent to see one of their doctors. Sounds great but this will cost us $500.

SO some good things and still some that just won't go away.  I still need to get the 2008 tax stuff together before the 15th of this month.

I just can't believe all this happening at once!

    Thanks everyone Smile

Well Cat, I'm glad to hear that somethings are working out, but sorry to hear that some are getting more troublsome for you. No fun at all. Hope more of those end up with solutions soon. You're in my thoughts and prayers!

Re: Could things possibly get any worse UGH!

    Cat,

Besides, craigslist, there is also a group called Freecycle, which is also all over the country. Everything on Freecycle is FREE - the object is to keep things out of a landfill.

Here in AZ, I'm in the middle of about 4 Freecycle areas, and I see all kinds of things being offered, from clothing (adult and children's), books, board games, furniture, appliances and more. I've gotten lucky and have "won" things like an antique sewing machine, porcelain dolls, a sheepskin from New Zealand and all kinds of stuff. I've gotten rid of computer parts, empty chain spools, coffee cans, clothing, books and more. We even Freecycled the ceramic tile from the floor in the old store when we did the build out! Though you don't get the tax write off that you would if you made a donation, you do get the satisfaction of keeping things out of the landfills. You do have to judge whether the item offered is worth the distance you might have to travel. A tupperware colander isn't worth a 30 mile trip, but a scanner might be.

I've gotten two of my daughters hooked on Freecycle, too. They look there before they head to a thrift store or yard sales.

Hang in there - you survived most of the audit. I still think that w/c needs to do some major investigating on this guy. I'd bet a private investigator would discover this disability isn't really one. Do any of your local TV stations have an investigative reporter? I know that there are at least 2 of them around here that would jump on a story like yours!

Oh Cat, you need some down time don't you!  I will definately be praying for you.  Do your best to carve out some time to do something you like, something that will allow you to "get away" from thinking about all this stuff.

We had a hard time getting out van diagnosed a few years ago too.  It was doing weird things and would stall at stop lights.  Of course we took it in mulitple times and they'd hook it up and never found anything.  Finally, they told me, next time it stalls (and I manage to get it started again) to bring it in, not turn the engine off and have them hook it up right away.  Did that, and somehow I guess they figured out we needed a new powertrain control module.  It was a real pain though and it took a lot of me insisting there was something wrong with the car.  I even "gave" them my car for a weekend and one of th guys there actually drove it home and back to work for a couple days.  of course it wouldn't act up for him.

It never rains but it pours.  Just listening to that about the guy with the worker's comp makes me angry, that's not fair.  I hope they deny him.  Honestly if he's in that bad a shape, no matter how he got that bad, he hadn't ought to need worker's comp to pay for it, can't he qualify for Medicaid or something?  Maybe I'm confused but it doesn't seem right that you have to pay for sending him to a worker's comp doctor for that amount of money just to prove him wrong.

I hope Meghan starts feeling better and everything starts working out for you Cat, this has been a long stretch of very bad stress for you and I'm worried about you.

Deb, thanks for the mention of Freecycle, that's a good resource when it's available and I had forgotten all about it.

I sure hope things turn around for you soon. I too was going to mention freecycle when you talked about the tight money thing, but i fell behind on posts :P  There is also the related group called cheapcycle. Cheapcycle is for items you just cant part with for free but keep it at yard sale like prices. You can even request needed items from the groups like clothes for the lil one that other group members may be able to provide.

     Cat,

I'm sorry to be so late to this thread. I am sorry to hear of all of this. I hope that things are working themselves out.  This all sounds absolutely miserable and to have it all at once - yuck.  I am thinking good thoughts for you and sending them to you. Please take care of you also!

Re: Could things possibly get any worse UGH!

Thanks for letting me whine everyone :)

Kids are all better, I've gotten the 2008 taxes done and mailed off to the good ole IRS, the refridgerator has been fixed $400 later, so things are improving just a wee bit.

Financially we are still not doing well but I keep looking forward that it will get better. I still have worries about many things, mostly financial, but otherwise it's getting better.

Worker's Comp is still an issue to deal with and the rest of the IRS audit but I'm feeling better. It feels like half of the ton of bricks on my shoulders have been removed. I have been so tense for weeks.

Sleeping has improved a bit too- haven't had a nap in three days!

I'm glad to hear this Cat, I'm really glad that ton of bricks has fallen off your shoulders.  It must feel so good to be able to sleep peacefully again.
