So simple, organic, yes, and COOL!  What an idea, relativly minimalistic, and I love it to bits. Wonderful.

Thank you everyone. Happy to hear the positive feedback :)

I have made a set of this (this one was supposed to be a bold pair of earrings but then i didn't feel like making the other half.. haha, so necklace it is). I have the (other) necklace, and a ring.

don't really like the ring tho.. will need a redesign on that.

That is gorgeous Kay, you do have a great eye for wirework!

From what I understand about patina though none of it is permanent, any patina can be scrubbed off unless it's protected by a coat of laquer or something called Envirotex which I never heard of until I saw this....  http://www.metalartistforum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=932

I'm going to have to check that site out...

Ooooh.  Me wants!  I love your work.

Is that a patina that's been applied, or is it coloration from the torch work?  The deep red looks like firescale, which I believe is permanent - unlike an applied finish.

@Lita: The patina is created by heat. i think it's kinda permanent too. unless you scrub it with abrasive or dip it in vinegar/pickle.

thanks for the link pam. i'll check in the morening. time for bed now :)

thanks to you too jeannie :]

Kay, no problem. I haven't got time to explore that either these days!

It's copper. silver doesn't get red patina, i don't think. just blackened. thanks :D

Aha!  I wondered about that.  I was going to ask how you got a red patina for silver...

    Re: Twigsy Necklace

Jeni, different patinas can be produced on sterling silver by using liver of sulfur.  It isn't expensive, it stinks like rotten eggs though so it's best done outside.  Put some boiling water in a cup and add  a small lump of the liver of sulfur, about the size of a pea, stir it up to dissolve it then dip the piece you want to patina in and out of the cup until you like the color.  The more often the piece is dipped the darker it gets but in between no patina and flat black there can be a number of different interesting colors.  The whole process is pretty variable, there's no way to come up with one particular color over another, say, or even to duplicate the same color twice.  It's fun though, if you can stand the smell, LOL.  Then you can laquer the piece to help preserve the patina but what you wouldn't want to do is subject it to a lot of wear, say in a bracelet that would be worn while putting a coat on and off repeatedly as it could still wear off that way.

Kay, a fired on patina could wear into something else but not really come off, but that would take a good amount of time, months to a year or more maybe depending on wear factors like with the liver of sulfur.   These are just beautiful with that red color!
