    Re: Furbabies- Post your pics!

It's taken me a while to catch up on all these posts!  Sassy reminds me of my first pet.  I was a sophmore in high school and my boyfriends neighbors bred himalayans.  Of course I just HAD to have one.  So my first pet was a blue point (grey) himalayan.  We were trying to come up with a clever name.  Since he was a blue-point and I was taking French in high school we named him Roquefort (blue-cheese).  We called him Roquie for short (r-oak-y).  Odd name I know.  Roquie played fetch!  We would crumple up little pieces of paper and throw them, he'd go running after them, pick them up and bring it back and drop it.  He'd do that over and over, it was hilarious.

I've had quite a few pets over the years.  Right now we only have a dog (Rocky - in honor of Roquie), two guinea pigs (Prince Pig and Whiskers), and three betta fish(Bob, Bob and Bob LOL).  I'm really more of a cat person.  We had two cats that I had to put to sleep a few years ago.  We waited a couple years and got three kittens last year only to discover that one of my daughters developed a severe allergy to cats and because of that developed asthma.  :-(  I love my animals, but my human kids come first, so the little kitties had to go.  We were fortunate to find someone willing to take all three together.  Now my daughters asthma is almost completely gone and only becomes a problem when she gets a cold.

I'm just waiting til she's off to college to get my kitty fix again!  I've developed cat allergies too, but I'm gonna get the shots.  I gotta have my cats!

    Re: Furbabies- Post your pics!

Well, this thread is dangerous! All of these adorable critters, and not a sobering thing in sight (now that we know Molly's going to be okay, at least... .. She is going to be okay, right? =/ ). Thanks Jsmaz (Jeni?) for sending me over here! hehe

All of this talk about very opinionated pets is making me laugh. I had a cat named Monty (sounds relatively unassuming, right? Until you learn it's short for Marquis de Montcalm. Yeesh!) who was quite the character. Your person was designed specifically for the purpose of being his throne/loungechair. He was the most regal cat I've met, and yet somehow also the least regal. He flopped, and rolled, and gallumped, and all kinds of other silly things. He was never too proud if the result was a belly rub. I loved that cat.

My parents' dog, Ginger. She's about 13 now, but she's still a good guard dog. She used to let our cats pet themselves on her chin, when my parents still had cats.

Self-pettingPardon the quality.. 'twas taken through a window (screen) and such. As soon as she knows we can see her, she doesn't let them do it. XD She's a goofball. (The cat in the picture's Phantom, my mom's old cat.) You can see her blissed out/long-suffering(?) expression, despite the blurriness. I love it. XD

Here, my mother-in-law has three cats (Sam, Spook, and 'Fluffa'/Priscilla), and two dogs (Jack Russell Terriers.. Alfonze and Frederick. I keep forgetting and wanting to call Al.. Alfred. >>;).

Anywho, now that imageshack doesn't hate me anymore, I can show you some of 'my' babies.

SamSam.. He has the softest fur ever, and I love his tail. It's like a raccoon tail in Creamsicle colours. So cute!

SpookSpook.. It's a miracle we even have this picture. She's .. very aptly named. XD If you know cats, I think you can probably tell by her body language that that was taken about two seconds before she was gone like a flash. ;p

Fluffa"Fluffa"/Priscilla.. She's a Maine coon cat. She's very old, and sick now, the poor dear.. :|

I had to take pictures of them with flash, because I usually don't remember to take my camera in the day, and they refuse to sit near lamps or light. (How rude! :p) So, they all have different 'flash issues' with their eyes. Sam's eyes are pale, pale brown (tawny, I guess?), Spook's are this gorgeous light tealy blue, and Fluffa's are green. Ah, I love cats. ^-^~

And then there're the dogs.. I don't have any current pictures of them (they're about 2 years old now), so you'll have to make do with puppy pictures. (Such a hardship, I know!)

FredThis is Fred.. He has what his 'mom' calls puppy ADHD. He's so hyper! But such a sweetie. He has this funny 'smudge' of black over his right eye that makes him look perpetually worried. So cute! XD

AlAnd Al, sitting in his 'mom's' lap. He's the cuddly pup. Although, they will fight each other for your lapspace, if you give them a chance. :p Al's a bit more attentive than his brother, but he can be quite the rascal.

    Rainey stretching

My own personal 'character' is Rainey. I hope she will continue to bless my life with her oddities for a very long time. She's the most bizarre cat I've ever had, and I love her to pieces. She keeps me company pretty much whenever she can get to me, but she doesn't really like being cuddled or anything, anymore. She had some unpleasant experience with someone who doesn't know when to let an animal go. ._. She'll let me pick her up and set her on my shoulder, but she'll only stay there for a while if I walk around so she can look at stuff. heheh. She likes being up high so she can observe the world, and like every indoor cat I know, she adores sitting at windows and watching things. More so if the window's open and she can sniff the air blowing through (and hear the birds and insects, I'd guess).

She loves being outside, but we don't let her wander without supervision because we live on a state highway thing. I wasn't used to having an indoor cat before I moved here. My old cat Monty used to follow me everywhere whenever I was outside, but I just figured it was because I was usually gone. He'd wait for me at the end of the lane when I was supposed to be getting home from school. My mom said he'd wait for about half an hour if I had a practice or something (didn't come home on the bus), and then wander back to the house looking dejected. Poor guy.

I couldn't bring him with me when I moved here. I thought I'd bring him once I was settled; I didn't want to have to displace him more than once right away. They closed my parents' road down for construction on a bridge, so no cars were going through for about 2-3 months, and when they opened it again, he got hit. ._. But yeah, I just figured he was so attached to me when I was out because I wasn't out much, but Rainey does the same kinds of things all day long.

Rainey nappingShe'll be napping next to me, I'll get up and go somewhere else, and she'll wake up, follow me to wherever and curl back up to nap again.

Rainey's favourite spotHer favourite resting spot is on either my husband or I when we're sleeping. She kneads the blankets 'til she's comfy, and then stretches out. If we don't go to bed when she thinks we should, she comes to poke us. "Um, hello? Hello? Come on, it's time for bed, let's go! Hello?" Sooo adorable~  <3 (If you're wondering, that sliver of a person is me. I fall asleep with my glasses on all the time. So glad that 'tune-ups' are free at my optometrist's office... :p )

    If I close a door behind me, she'll stick her paws under the door, paw up at the door handle, and meow to be let in/out (depending on where I am. :p) She hasn't quite figured out how to open doors herself, but I'm wondering if it's just a matter of time, because she definitely gets that that thing up there is what makes it open. When I go to visit my family, my husband says she slinks around kind of looking pathetic, and looks for attention all the time. hehe. He obviously doesn't know how much attention the little dear usually gets... XD;

She also runs to answer the phone when it rings... jumps up, sits in front of it, sniffs at it until you come to answer it, and then she looks at you as if to say 'what took you so long?' My mother-in-law jokes that we should train her to take messages.

And! We play tag. I chase her into the kitchen and ruffle her fur a bit, and then she chases me down the hall and bats at my ankles. It's so much fun, and so darned cute!

I found an utterly silly picture of her. I took this back when we first got our new (not so great) camera, and kept getting weird results from the flash. This is one example. :P

    GlowDoesn't she looks sinister? Hee.

She's obviously plotting her next daring heist from my beading stash! :O!

My beading companionThis is where she hangs out while I'm beading or whatever. She looks like a (n adorable) lump in this picture because she'd just come home from the vet, so she was kinda sleepy. She's so long that she can stretch across the entire back of my chair, but when she curls up, she looks so tiny! Talk about optical illusions.. ^-~

[[I'm sorry about the wall-o'-text quality of this. When imageshack gets over its temper tantrum I'll post more pictures to break it up a bit. :x! ]]*

    Re: Furbabies- Post your pics!

Nicole, your babies are beautiful.  Rainey doesn't look too terribly sinister to me, and Ginger and Phantom are very sweet!  When Imageshack gets over it's temper I'd love to see more!!!   I'm so sorry to hear that Monty didn't make it.

And you are right, Molly is going to be fine.  This whole thing went much better than I thought it would and she's definitely feeling just fine.

I love the name Phantom for a black cat!  Ours was Shadow, and it just seemed to fit him.  Not sure if I have any post-able pics of him.  They may all be pre-digital ones.  He was a good cat-I really miss my fuzzy lap warmers, just not the hair & litter everywhere!  Next cat we get will be outdoors only I think.

.... Okay. Today is obviously not my day.

I was just making a post... about how I was editting my post to add pictures, was finished and looked at the preview, and accidentally hit backspace, thus losing all my editting. Then, I hit a button on my mouse that I'd forgotten was there (it's on the side), and it took me back to the thread too! So I lost my post about losing my editted post! Good grief. XD I'm going to have to edit later, because I'm just too annoyed to redo it right now. heh.

Anyway.. we're trying out this new litter system thing. It uses clay pellets instead of litter, and has an absorbent pad thing underneath. It seems neat, is cheaper overall than buying litter all the time, and considerably less messy (and not nearly as heavy!). We just started, and apparently it takes a while for your cat to get used to the idea, so I'll let you know how it goes. :p

I've also heard about this thing that is basically like a toilet for your cat, sort of? It gets hooked up to your septic system, and it cleans itself. But it's pretty expensive (~$300?), so I won't be getting that. =/ (Edit: This thing: http://www.catgenie.com)

As for the fur.. Yeah, it gets everywhere. XD Even though Rainey doesn't shed a lot most of the time, I still find stray hairs all over the place. I love those scotch-tape-ish roller things.

I don't have any digital pictures of Monty, either. My little brother made me an album of pictures of him for my birthday. It was really sweet. My mom helped him go through her (huge!) stash of pictures and find good ones of him, so at least I have those. We kind of grew up together (Monty and I, although it does apply to my brother too. >P ), so there are a lot. ^^

When we had our three kittens (had to find other homes for them because my daughter developed severe allergies and asthma) we used the automatic system that used the crystal litter.  I wish I could remember the name.  Anyway, I LOVED it.  I've always liked the crystal litter because it never smells.  So the crystals absorb the pee and the automatic part scoops the poop for me!  Of course since we had three kittens we had to empty the poop part every day.  You're supposed to buy only the brand name refills, but I would just empty the old crystals and pour in cheaper stuff.  After a few months I did have to buy the refill because it's a cardboard holder and it would eventually get wet.

I miss my little kitties.  We got three from the same litter and one of them got very sick and almost died.  For three days I got up every hour at night to syringe feed her and make sure she was staying warm.  The heating pad actually gets too hot so every hour I'd microwave one of those rice socks.  She pulled through and we never really knew what was wrong with her.  Her temp had gotten really low and then was having seizures.  But once we got her temp regulated she seemed okay.  It might have just been being away from mom, who knows.  Because of all the special care she really bonded with me and was always wanting to be near me.  Her name was pearl, she was a dark grey tiger.  We also had Ally and Chase.  Chase was the big brother, literally twice as big as his sisters and was always chasing them LOL.  Chase and Ally were both white with tabby spots.  It killed me to have to get rid of them, but my own kiddos come first.

I'm hoping I might be able to convince my daughter to get the allergy shots LOL.  Otherwise I'll have to wait until she's out of the house.  I;ve developed pretty severe cat allergies too, but I'll get the shots in a heartbeat!

Interesting-didn't know they made allergy shots for animals. Good thing to know, even though we're not allergic.  Nice to know that those cat litter systems actually work.  I may have to try that next time we fall in love with a furball!

She looks like she's going to re-decorate the tree. *laughz*

My longhaired diva once decided that she hates those handpainted glass bulbs on the tree. And "ping"..........she destroyed the first one with a straight right. And then I decided that she spents Christmas eve outside of the living room. But she is way too lazy to be upset for along time. Wink
