That is so funny Pam! I guarantee you they know when you spoil them and they like it! Marley did a bit of that. When she had her surgery on Friday, obviously, I kept her inside with me because I didn't want the other dogs getting her hyper. Then she stayed in most of the day on Saturday. By Sunday, when she was feeling better, I put her back outside, but I was letting her in periodically to check on her. The funny thing is, ever since then, when I let her in, and then try to get her to go back outside, she stops at the door and looks at me as if she's saying, "Aww mom...do I have to? I thought I was special."  She's never done that before. Usually, if I try to put her outside, she just goes without a second thought. But now she's the princess and thinks she should stay inside all the time.

Robin-- OH do I know that look! My bird Cricket looks at me every time I have to put her in her cage... sometimes she clamps her feet around my fingers and WON'T be moved. That's usually when she wins the battle if I'm only going to be gone a little while. I just close the doors to all the other rooms JUST in case she gets off her cage and windowsill... she can't get into too much trouble. *sigh* She really IS the princess around here.

Courtney, thank you.  I sure don't want to lose her, and I was worried about that but I think the chance of that is much less now.

I'm trying to take care of me too Smile ....  my mother had heart surgery in February, she had an aortic valve replacement similar to Mrs. Bush's surgery, and she was doing quite well.  Then about three weeks ago she started complaining of pain in her chest, her side, her back, her this or that...she couldn't quite pin it down.  Well, it turns out she has a compression fracture of her L1 vertebrae...so today I've been trying to organize some help for her through the VNA, etc.  I'm not the only one doing this, my sister is there staying with her...and my brother helps her a lot...so it's not as hard on me as it could be...but it's just another thing on top of everything else...and I'm kind of a big B today, and kind of clutzy too.  I should write a book.

Robin, that's funny too, LOL...Princess Marley ...  I know exactly what you mean!  And Lois, I have to chuckle at the thought of Cricket clamping her feet around your finger and refusing to get in her cage...that tiny little bird asserting authority over you... Big Smile

Lois, I even have an emperor with me! I think I told you, where he got his name from. He is named after the emperor Franz Joseph of Austria, who was the husband of Empress Elisabeth, aka Sissi. Most people know Sissi from the famous films with Romy Schneider. So Franzl is predestined to behave like an emperor. *laughz*

Pets got used to "special" treats very fast. One of my cats was very ill over the last months and to make sure that she takes her meds, we wait until she was so hungry that she would have eaten everything. Then she cried and got what she want, including the meds. And now (she is ok now) she thinks that everytime she cries, she'll get food or other things she wants, e.g. going outside, going into the kitchen. It is hell to get her off that trip. The other one doesn't act like a princess, she simply IS. And she knows about it! Confused

Dagmar, that's funny too!  These animals are so intelligent and so much like us in so many ways...it's a wonder some scientists still say they don't have consciousness or don't remember things...etc., they are only animals.  But, hey, sometimes I think all I am really is just another overdressed chimpanzee...

LOL, Pam. Sometimes I think who keeps who. Me the animals or the animals me? I think the animals keep themselves a personal tin opener (but that's just my opinion). *laughz*

Oh gosh yes! I know that I am OWNED by the bird, I am HER slave, here to provide treats, cuddles, scratches, and entertainment (my beads) . And yes, it is very funny to see this little bitty 64 gram bird trying to manipulate me! She usually knows when she can get away with it, and I'll cave in and let her sit on top instead of IN her cage, and some times it's my own fault for being gone too much and she's protesting being left home alone so much. At any rate, I know how to force the issue when needed. Still, it IS funny to see her pretend she doesn't know what I'm trying to get her to do.

Dagmar-- I thought ALL lovebirds were emperors! I know OURS always thought so! IN fact, our bird right now is trying to demand Steve's time... he's working from home this morning before going down to Orem for some meetings.... and Cricket thinks it's saturday! She WILL not stay with me! She keeps running over to him and trying to get his attention. Funny, but starting to annoy steve a bit! He's trying to work!

Okay I guess it is about time I posted a picture of my furbaby. Her name is Sassy and the name fits her. She is a 3 year old Himalayan, apricot in color. She is really a big baby that likes all the attention from anyone that will give it to her.

OPPS forgot to paste the picture dah!!!!!

Sue-- Awwww! She's so cute! And she looks like she's enjoying her nap.  I've always loved the longhair breeds. Too bad I can't have a cat that lives inside. Too allergic. Ah well, I enjoy other people's cats.

Sue, she's great! A real beauty! But wasn't she the one who scratched your hand? OK, but what can you do? They are little tigers! Count the scratches on my own arms and hands. Sad

Sue, she is CUTE!  I love long-haired cats, just not having the hair everywhere.  We had a rag doll for awhile that was the best cat ever-we were so sad we had to give him away before going to Spain years ago, but we just couldn't afford to take all our animals with us (we had a menagerie back then-4 cats, a dog and 4 snakes).

We called him our race-car kitty or flop kitty, since he would flop down in front of us, belly up, in his "pet me" pose.  He used to go up to the TV when racing was on and watch it, then go around the back of the TV trying to see where the cars went!  It was the most hilarious thing I've ever seen, and he did it all the time.  I've never seen an animal pay such attention to the TV except one time when some lemurs were on a nature show we were watching, and another of our cats was trying to get at them through the screen.

My cats love to watch soccer! All the tiny little people on the screen running around for that ball. That is what reallyhas their interest.

Oh wow, Sassy is a beautiful cat!!  And why shouldn't she like all the attention she can get?  Everyone should know that she just deserves it!!!  I love the way cats think.

I love hearing all these stories...cats watching TV...running around the house...I have "only" three cats left after having six or seven for awhile.  Unfortunately some of them disappeared last summer I'm pretty sure because of the local wildlife.  So I'm hoping for the best this summer and I'm not going to go get any more cats for the time being...

I did have a Siamese cat who lived for 21 years...Sammy.  She had an attitude a lot like Sassy Smile, but when she didn't get her way she would scream the way Siamese cats do, so she got her way most of the time...(spoiled...).  She's been gone for about five years now and I still miss her.
