    Greetings from Japan!

Hajimemashite! (Nice to meet you!) My name is Rob and I'm an American expat language instructor out here living with my Korean hubbie. I've been into beadweaving since my grandfather in Alaska first taught me how to use a loom. Now I'm trying to master as many off-loom techniques as I can.

Beadweaving is the only thing I've discovered that both mellows and inspires me simultaneously. And there are so many possibilities with beads that it's easy to stay interested. When I'm not beading, I'm either out on the bike trail cruising along the rice paddies or learning another East Asian language. But beading kicks all.

So nice to meet fellow bead "otaku"!

Hi! Nice to meet you here and welcome to the forums! I saw a post from you somewhere else, before I read this here.

Is Rob the short form of Roberta? I have to read your post twice, because Rob and "my Korean hubbie" left me a bit confused. Wink

Beadweaving is great! I started with that again a few months ago and made some real nice pieces. Beadweaving caught me, because you only need thread, seedbeads and a needle to get started and make beautiful pieces. Looking forward to see some of your work.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Dagmar!

Rob is short for "Robynn." I'm a she. :-) Sorry for the confusion.

You're out in Germany? My brother LOVES it over there! His stories make me so jealous! What's the bead scene like out there?

Yeah, I got that by now! First when I read Rob I thought: cool, another one for the gentlemen here on the forum (they're a bit underrepresented)! But when I read about your husband, I knew that the ladies got another reinforcement. Big Smile

Was your brother with the Army in Germany? And where did he live? The bead scene here is very small. There are a some very talented bead artists, but there are no big shows or magazines only for beaders, like in the US. That's the reason why I joined this forum and why I write my blog in German and English. Sometimes I'm surprised, where the people come from that read my blog.

The possibilities to get beading supplies raised very much with the internet. Now you can get everything from online shops all over Germany or elsewhere. That's great! And with the internet it is no problem to communicate with people from all around the world. Sometimes it's more fun than talking to people, who live "next door" (I mean Germany/Europe compared to the US, Australia or Asia). That's what I really enjoy being on this forum, besides seeing the work of all these creative folks or getting inspired by the free projects. Hope you enjoy it here!

Nice to meet you Rob!  I'm jealous-I'd love to visit Japan.  My hubby's been there on a military temporary duty assignment, but I wasn't able to go with him (darn job anyway).

Glad you decided to join in.  Have you been able to visit Miyuki or Toho or their bead museum since you've been there?

    Re: Greetings from Japan!

     Hi Rob -

I am new to this site and you are the first person I am responding to. I saw "Japan" and that caught my interest. I have been beading for many many years and I had no idea there are so many beaders out there. First thing I ever made was on a loom. Once I learned off loom I wouldn't go back to the loom. I don't know if I am doing it the way it "should" be done. I just came up with the idea on day and stuck with it. it works and that is what counts. I bounce all over the place with what I want to make. This spring I made a line using copper wire. It was pretty fun. About a month ago I was being taped for a local TV show. I was teaching how to bead. Another gal was on there as well. I was fasinated with her pattern. So I have been playing with it for awhile now. I like to stretch the limits and see what I can do. it's weaving all free hand.

I hope all going well for you over there. I've never been in Japan. I am in McMinnville, Oregon. A small town. But we have two bead stores here. I am doing the TV program through our church. It is great fun. Now the gals want me to teach a class. Not sure what it will be on... but no matter. It's nice to be with good people.

Blessing to you and happy beading!

     Welcome Rob

     I'm from Texas. I don't weave...yet .

But I must admit that the short time I've been here it has become quite interesting to me.

Everyone is so talented here and so willing to help those who are trying something new.

I hope you will return often so that we may get to know you better.
