earring pliers

Hey 

I am  shopping for a pair of wire pliers. But the kind that are flat, cone shapes. (on both sides) I hope you know what I mean. 
Anyway, I have seen some in a few different shops, but such a large price difference. Whats an average price for them?

They are called chain nose pliers. They can range from just a few dollars to to quite a bit of money. They also come in different sizes I have three pair that I have bought at different places, and all three are different sizes. And remember this when buying tools. Buy the best you can afford, the better they are the longer they will last.

If the ones you found at the hardware store have teeth don't puy them for working with jewelry wire. They will mar & mangle your wire.

If they are smooth then they would be okay to use for jewelry. Make sure that the pliers you buy will fit comfortably in your hand. Even when just making earwires you do alot of bending a twisting and if the pliers aren't comfortable for you your wrists & hands will fatigue (sp?) quickly.

As long as the pliers fit in your hand comfortably & are without teeth they should work for jewelry applications.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of help you were looking for or not.

If there is a Michaels, JoAnn, or local bead store they would have what you are needing. Many web stores have pliers as well. Sears is another place that should have the correct pliers.

Personally, I have not seen any pliers at Sears that don't have the gripping teeth. These teeth will mare your metal pieces.  Stay away from these and stick to the ones made for jewelry making,  you can find some very inexpensive ones  that are intended for the job at hand, other wise, don't waste you money, just steal a pair out if the garage.

I live on a small island in the South China sea. So we don't a Michaels. Ohhhhhh I wish we did! 

The only chain stores here are kfc and Mcdonalds! haha

But, there are a few markets where I can buy my supplies from and the hardware shops carry a lot more then you'd think here!

You meant chain nose pliers right? They are easy to find from any fancy shops. And they are cheap as well.

I hope every one knows you get what you pay for. If you plan on using the pliers for along time you should purchase the best ones you can afford, and that goes of all of your tools.  High quality cutting tools are extremely important.
