I have been using ammonia fumes in a glass covered jar for years. I put a half inch in the bottom of a half pint jar, wash the metal pieces first then suspend on a thin wire suspended across the top of the jar and gently screw the lid on and check at 30 min. It usually takes about an hour. Then I buff woth steel wool.
