Recently in a Blog entry at Beading Daily byJennifer VanBenschoten, she said:

On a comfortable length of thread, pick up 4 beads in color B and use ladder stitch to make 4 stacks of 2 beads each.

Here is the link: Click here. Whip up a Herringbone Stitch Rope

I know how to basically make a strip of ladder stitch, but I do not really know what she means. There is a photo, so I know what it should end up looking like. I guess you just sew it into a cube shape as pictured??? I clicked on the ladder stitch link but it basically just shows a single strip of ladder stitch....

Does anyone have any good tips for making 4 stacks of 2 beads each? My approach would be to make a strip of 4 beads in the normal ladder stitch, push it manually into half and try to add more beads on top. Somehow that does not seem correct or right.

I just love this herringbone rope that she introduces and I want to try and make it.

You will start out with the four beads after you circle through all 4 beads a couple of times then you should have 2 stacks of two beads each. You will then pick up 2 more beads and go back through the previous 2 beads and then back through the beads you just added. Pick up 2 more beads and repeat. Now you are ready to start your herringbone weave.

Hope this was helpful. I can try to clarify it more if needed.

happy beading!

Oh, this sounds much better than the way I thought of.  Thanks. I will try it.
