    Map of members?

After seeing a posting from Jeni about adding another country to our members, I think it would be cool to have a map of the world with a little dot for each member's country ( and if possible for each US State ).

I think it would be cool to see how many different countries are represented ( as well as States but I don't want to limit to just Americans ).

Maybe we could go even further with one color dots for ladies and another dot for the men...just out of curiosity.

Even if we can't do a map maybe some kind of master list. It does not have to have cities even. But the map would be good because I am not the best with geography so a map would help me.

    Just a thought!

Sheila, I think this is a fantastic idea!  Since the forum is still relatively young at just over a year old, everyone has had a chance to get to know each other so it's truly much more personal than any of the other forums I checked out.  Plus, being relatively new, it wouldn't be such a ginormous task to start the map and it certainly wouldn't be too terribly difficult to then keep up with it.  It really would be a treat to see where all my new friends are on a map.

Michelle, is this something that Beading Daily would take on or would you want one of us to get it started?  Being realistic, I think some new folks might be hesitant at first to be "mapped" so it might be best to have an option to decline, something which could be changed later as that person became more familiar and comfortable with all of us.

That would be fun!  Being a military family one of the things I've been wanting to do is get a big map of the world and put pins or stickers where we've all lived/visited.  I just haven't gotten around to it yet, but the older kidlet gets the more interesting it will be for him.

Just be sure you use different colors -- one before kidlet was born, and one after.  That will make it more meaningful for the kidlet.

HOW long until we get the map of members ?? ?

    Re: Map of members?

I took it upon myself to go ahead and do this through Frappr. I started a Beading Daily map. Go to this url:

    http://www.frappr.com/beadingdaily

and sign up should you choose to. I understand that some people don't like to do things like this, so I won't have my feelings hurt if any individual doesn't feel comfortable doing so. I just thought that it would be a fun idea, like the others up there. *pointing upwards* So go for it people, let's see just how far and wide we are scattered.

I only have pins for the guys and gals and LBS's right now, but it you want some other pins, just let me know.

Thanks, everyone!  We are making a list of all these great suggestions you have and we'll be prioritizing them and working on them as we can.  I appreciate your efforts to make some of those dreams come true on your own (like the map!).  Please keep the great ideas coming--I promise you that we're listening (okay, reading) even if it seems like it takes us a long time to respond!

By the way, this may be a good time to mention that Interweave is expanding in an attempt to keep up with all this activity!  We have some new positions listed, so if you know of anyone who is job hunting, you might pass along the link to our job listings

Billy, you're awesome!  Thanks for doing this for us.  I'm that little red dot almost due west of you way on the other U.S. coastline.  Paradise

I am new to Frappr, so as one newbie to another, for those not sure if you want to do this, all you have to give is your name (you only have to give a first name if you prefer), an email address (which is kept private) and set up a password.  After you log on, you can edit your profile to add any other information you wouldn't mind our group knowing.  From what I've seen, the only information actually seen on the map is your name, city and country, and a picture if you've added one (I'm still working on getting a nice current one).  (Billy, love the pic, thanks for sharing.  You're almost exactly as I had pictured you'd be!   Cool )

    LBS? = local bead store??

Thanks Billy for doing that. I am the little dot in Indiana.

Sunrise Jewelry - I think that LBS is local bead store...at least that is how I read it.

    Re: Map of members?

LBS is Local Bead Store. *laughz* I only used that abreviation because I have seen others here using it. I guess we all need to get hep to tha lingo! Ya know?

I am a Senior Moderator(over 7 years dealing with teen angst *laughz*) on a gaming website(www.gametalk.com but it is down for upgrades at the moment) and we did a map of all the Mods and it was really fun. It will be good when everyone gets on it. I think that it kind of narrows the gap between us as friends, ya know.

Thanks for all of the nice comments. I do appreciate it. *blushes* I hope that I did not overstep any boundries by creating the map with the Beading Daily name on it. If I did, just yell at me some and I'll change it. *laughz* Thanks again all.

    Re: Map of members?

No Michelle, It is us that need to thank you, and Interweave. Thank you for setting up a place where like minded individuals can congregate, chat, and even show off their work. We come from all over the world and all walks of life, yet we meet here on a level playing field and have a wonderful time together.

This is a great forum and with the regs and newbies working togehter, we are all going to make it even better. Thanks again.

I added myself to your map, Billy.  That's a great idea-I've never heard of Frappr till now.  Perhaps that's how we should do our personal map.  Thanks for setting that up!

Michelle, I'd love to work for Interweave.  Pity there's nothing I can do for you from over here, but if we retire to Colorado someday, I might come knocking...you guys ski on your lunch breaks, right?Wink

    Re: Map of members?

I had never heard of it until we did the GT Mod map, but it is a very cool site. If you make your own map like i did, you can configure it in different ways to make it even more user friendly than it already is. I mean that took me some ten minutes to set up and I am on dial-up. someone with cable or DSL could have done it in half of that. The most time consuming part is filling in your info to register so that they will allow you to make the map.

I just wish that the anonymous visiters would at least put in their screen names. Having a location pinned but not knowing who it is, is practically worthless. I could fill one up with those by myself and pretend that I know them all. *laughz* Nowutimeen? Nice family shot by the way. You resemble the imaginary picture that I had of you except I was picturing you with a dark alburn hair for some reason. Don't ask me why, my imagination just runs amuck sometimes. *laughz*

I wouldn't mind a cushy job working in, on, around, or about jewelry making with beading in particular. Sadly, the closest job offered is like 800 miles away AND I am disabled so I can't work for anyone legally anyway. Ah well, I can still hang here with my beading buddies. That's good enough for me.

    Re: Map of members?

Ah Hah! There is a way to turn off the anonymous ones. If it was anyone here, please just repost it with your screen name to make it show up. The same with the LBS's, please put the name of the store on the tag. Thanks a million.
