Anyone else on the East Coast U.S. in this heatwave?

Yes, this is why I am awake at 1:45 am.  It is still 80 degrees outside, and our house is miserable.  We live in the Adirondacks, so we don't have an air conditioner, because it almost never gets this warm for more than a day or two, but we're going on our fourth day of 90+ degree temperatures.  Add to that one five month old teething, cranky baby, and you've got  a perfect recipe for MISERY.

Hot weather + teething baby = no sleep for Mommy!

    Hehehe....

No I am in Indiana and I have air conditioning but sometimes that has had trouble keeping up. Last week we had tornados then we have horrible rain totals that caused flooding. Luckily at my house we were fine, but we know people that lost everything and they were not even close to any river, lake or pond. It seemed as if the water came out of nowhere. This happened on Saturday evening. Some people are still without water and electric. The local hospital could be months before they open back up.

I do understand the teething child. ( my son is now 17 years ) but I do remember those days. No rest from that and then add the heat/humidity and that makes everyone cranky.

Restock the popcicles and Good Luck!

    Hi Jen,

Cooler days are on their way. I live in the very southeastern cornor of Michigan and we were very hot for several days and than yesterday was beautiful. A lot cooler than all of lastweek. It was 57 low and 78 high. perfect!!  Today it is 68 at the time of this writing 8:29am and they are calling for a high of 84 another perfect day. Air is ok but unless you are closed up inside all the time the dog days of summer are still a killer. I myself I love to get outside and do things in the summer although I do try and do things early in the mornings.

I know you don't get much done anytime of the day with a teething baby. And I also remember those days although my youngest is 41yrs old. LOL Now when the grand kids are teething I get to send them packing LOLBig Smile The advange of being "grandma"Wink

I hope it's improved for you by now. I live in CA and it was 102 yesterday. Luckily I have both an upstairs and a downstairs air conditioner!

At 53degrees it was very cool here in Michigan yesterday  Wonder where our global warming went?Confused

Yesterday I wasn't feeling well so hubby started the gas fireplace to take the chill off the house. It really does a good job. A couple of years ago we had a terrible ice storm that knocked eletric out for a week.  With the fireplace and gas stove to cook with we were okay. We used our inclosed summer room as a fridge. We invited all the neigbhors that were not as well off as we were to come and stay warm and eat. Of cource it was candle light for dinner.Smile

Anyway hope it cools off for you soon. I would rather have cool  you can add clothes to stay warm. You can only take off so much and not get arrested.Big Smile

Its pretty darn hot here in NC. Luckily though (well... sort of), it usually does so we were prepared and have central AC. I think the worst part is the humidity. I live in the mountains too though, so the farther I go up into them, the cooler it gets. Its a whole lot cooler at my house than down in town- makes yard work and hikes more bearable.

Humphhh!  I may decide to turn on the furnace, if it gets any cooler here.

It's apparently 68º here now, at 11:17pm. I don't know exactly how hot it was today, but It was too hot to do any gardening. I took one step outside and decided that was enough. lol.  My cat made it out the door before me, though, so I had to "chase" her down. (She made it about 10 feet, and then flopped down in the sun. XD)  I don't really have a lot of summer clothes, because it doesn't get too hot where I used to live. I guess I really should go clothes shopping.. D:  My husband can't stand being too hot (and neither can I, really), so we have a really nice A/C, so being inside is nice. :x

Jen, you poor thing! I don't have kids (yet?), but I still remember what it was like when my (technically half-)brothers were teething. Have you tried getting a gel teething toy? My mom used them in the summer. They're some kind of gel inside some sort of casing and you can stick them in the freezer. They get cold, but they don't freeze solid. It was the only thing she could find that kept our wee guys happy. They were something similar to these... or  these. I don't know if they'd help with your wee one, but it might be worth a try, no?

    o.O!

Yeah... and by cool for me, I mean 83 degrees on the mountain instead of 86 or so in town. NC cool is a little different than MN cool I think. Wink

Jen - Here on Long Island, we've been caught up in cycle after cycle of cool, wet weather.  It barely gets to 80 during the day, and has dropped off to the mid and low 60's at night.

Well, I'm not in the east coast, but I DO get the weather patterns before you guys do. The rain should be coming to an end, it has here in Utah. We've finally got summer hitting, with a vengance.... we jumped from 60's straight up to the 90's. Thank heavens for central air!

We've had the A/C off the last few days, because it has been cool and dry [relatively] here.  About 7:30 AM, it was 58 degrees F in our screened porch, which is on the west side of the house.  Any cooler, and we'll have to turn on the furnace!!

Re: Anyone else on the East Coast U.S. in this heatwave?

Lita, that's exactly the kind of weather we're having up here in NH.  Yuck.

Lois, this weather pattern here on the east coast is coming from the opposite direction than the usual...ordinarily our weather comes Southeast out of Canada, lately it's been coming off the Atlantic.  There's an explanation for this but I don't remember what the weatherman said...

Melinda, that's funny!  They want Alaska to be cold (but not too cold, right?).

Stan, your weather sounds perfect, that's exactly the kind of weather I love best, not too warm, not too cool.  I hope you don't have to turn on the heat!

By the way, has anyone noticed that Jen's original post here was June 10th last year?  When Ash picked up on this thread yesterday I don't know if she saw that or not.

Re: Anyone else on the East Coast U.S. in this heatwave?

It's 98 out there now, but it's a relatively cool 78 inside at the moment. Our problem isn't so much with the heat, I can sort of take that, but we have 5 rivers and the Atlantic very closeby and that means the air is as thick as a brick. The weather page says that our humidity is only 38%, but that is pure BS, It's almost that inside with 3 window units running full blast. Outside is at least 50%. I can open the door and it's like having to gasp for breath. Even when it cools down at night, the air is still thick. That's rough when you're nursing a broken rib. That's why I haven't been posting as much lately. I broke a rib last Wednesday night climbing out of the pool. I slipped on the ladder and my right ribcage caught the edge of the deck. Thankfully, it's just one. I had 6 broken and 4 cracked once and it was pure torture for a month or two. The doc tried to pop a couple of needles in the area this morning to see if that would help today, but no dice. bone pain is HARD to control.

Oh well, here's hoping that it cools down or warms up depending on where you are standing at teh moment.
