Any tips of phototgraphing white pieces

Over the years, I've created tons of bridal pieces, but I have a heck of a time getting the pieces to photograph well.  I am working on a piece for the Bead Mavens Ice Queen contest, and am hoping to figure out a way to get a decent picture of it when I'm done!!!  I've tried various backgrounds, but maybe it's a lighting issue?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated - and then maybe I could finally start posting and selling my bridal pieces on Etsy!

Hi, Amy!!

The easiest thing to do is to change the background when you're shooting your photos. I would suggest light grey - it's easy to color balance in photo editing and it shows off colors beautifully, and pearls especially look beautiful against it. 

How are you trying to photograph them now? What is your photography set-up like? Sometimes you can still do a white or light background and have silver and crystals show up well, but not without a light box and some really good lighting.

Grey would be my suggestion also.  I usually photograph on a piece of 8x10 light grey felt that you can get at any craft store.

I agree that a light grey would be perfect. I also agree with Jeni and was going to suggest that you use a piece of material that has a bit of texture. It will give something additional for the camera to help focus on. I would also think that a very pale blue would look nice as well, but nothing too bright!
