Beadwork

New issue is out in the store but still not in my mailbox [:(]

I have been having a terrible time trying not to look in the new issue of Beadwork that arrived at the store last week. I don't want to look because I have a subscription to the magazine, but it hasn't come to my house yet. It is so aggravating to see it on the news stands before I have it in my little hands at home. I don't know why this happens because I only live a few miles from the beadstore I work at.

Shouldn't the subscriptions go out before the news stands copies? I could just save the aggravation and just buy it from the news stands or LBS when it comes out and that way I wouldn't have to get all of them. If there isn't anything in it that I am interested in I could just skip that one and save a little money.

Sorry just had to vent a little. [:'(] I will survive!!!!

Waves of Pearls in Dec 07 / Jan 08 issue

Where can I find out if there were any corrections in the directions for the Waves of Pearls design in this issue? I tried making it last night, but the directions call for all 11°, but just looking at it, it seems that they did use some 6° or 8° beads also. Thanks for any advice.

Project submissions

I have a question that I don't see answered anywhere on the Beadwork site regarding project submissions. Does a contributor get paid for the project? I would love to submit some projects but as someone trying to make a living as a bead artist and teacher I can't afford to give up my rights to sell my patterns in my kits for 18 months without monetary compensation.

Diagonal Beaded Bead

I have been looking back through my old issues of Beadwork for some inspiration. i decided to try Jessicals Beels Diagonal Beaded Bead (July 2008 page 64). I have had incredble difficulty getting it to look like the pic. I noticed ( after many hours) that there were some corrections here on the website, but I still cannot fathom it out.

Has anyone else done it and managed it?

What would YOU like to see in "Scarlett's Style"?

I have been having the greatest time designing the projects to feature in Beadwork's new Department "Scarlett's Style". We work months in advance, so the next several projects have already been submitted, but I wanted to post an open thread to find out what the reader's would like to see on the pages of "Scarlett's Style" in the future.

While my theme is "Fashion-Fresh Bead Designs", that's not all that I like to consider when I create a project. It's really important to me that we are publishing projects that beaders actually want to make themselves! I want readers to be able to explore their favorite stitches while learning methods for embellishment or dimensional beadwork that they may not have seen before. I am also trying to create projects that are challenging... but not daunting.

I would love to hear your comments on what would be exciting for you to see in "Scarlett's Style". I'm interested to know technique-wise (bead embroidery? any certain stitches?), color-wise (your favorite palettes), material-wise (more crystals please! naturally inspired themes...), and form-wise (necklaces, bracelets, another awesome and unique accessory!), and any other suggestion you might have.

I have received a lot of really nice comments and positive feedback on my website about the Department, so I just wanted to say thanks to everybody for being so supportive!

Beadwork's Feb/March issue!!!

I just got it today, and I am looking forward to a hot bath later once my husband can watch the baby when I can really dig into it, but wow. Wow. I love the project from Marcia Decoster, and I love the project from Scarlet Lanson, too!!!! I can't wait to start on them!

Also, just from glancing through it, I was completely intrigued by the Challenge pieces. I can't wait until I can relax and get a closer look at them!

Hi. I'm Cherie, an ambitious relatively beginning beader. I have a question.

I bought the project "Back to Byzantium" from Beadwork's Feb/Mar 2007 issue ad it doesn't give all the bead sizes for the project. Anybody figure this one out already?

... and had to post a message to say thank you to Marlene and the team, it's a real cracker of an issue (and I am NOT just saying that because it's got one of my projects in it) with a really good balance between stringing and stitching, formal and freeform, organic and geometric, seed beads and wire and gemstones, plus a Bead Boy Masterclass as the icing on the cake!

Please keep doing whatever it is you're doing, because as far as I'm concerned you're getting it exactly right. This is just what I want from a beading magazine. It's been such fun working with you all too!

If I could spread before you some freshly baked cupcakes to get our conversations rolling, I would. It's what I often do here in the office to reward our editors for their devotion to adding to the pleasures of beading. For all of us, there is no firm line drawn between the work we love and our "off-campus" beading lives. We are so fortunate. We are also supported and inspired by each of you who have such an abiding passion for beading.

Before this forum launched, my best opportunity to have a two-way conversation with you was to meet you at a bead store or bead event. But, of course, those encounters only allowed me to reach a few of our thousands of readers! Now, all of our editors for all the Interweave beading publications are poised to visit with you on a more regular basis. Going back to my cupcakes, I have high hopes we will all learn so much from one another--and find it to be delicious.

As we get acquainted, I look forward to stepping into some of your conversations to find out which projects in Beadwork feed your soul--or don't satisfy, what products (new or not) turn you on, what kinds of bead community stories you'd like to hear about, which designers you admire, what tips you have to share, and so much more. Beadwork Back-Issue Sale

Hi,

Did anyone else "stock up" during the interweave/beadwork back-issue sale?

I purchased 5 issues - how awesome is it, that as well as the magazines being discounted, the 5th mag was free! (OK, so postage cost $26US - I live in Australia)

I found one issue (with the beaded flowers on the front cover)- that i had been looking for, for ages! Does anyone know if the pattern/instructions for those flowers are in the magazine?

Oh. My. God. SO many beautiful projects, I don't know where to start! I'm so behind on my own designs that I really shouldn't be taking any time to do anything else, but I can't help it. That star purse is just tooooo cool, I've got to have one of those for the next time my hubby and I have our "date night".

This magazine just gets better and better! Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the projects are not just beautiful but very artistic as well?

So when is Beadwork gonna turn into a monthly magazine? Hehehe... Wouldn't that be just awesome?

Interweave's Beaded Book

Is anyone else brewing up ideas for Interweave's Beaded Book juried show??? A very long time ago, I used to make books from homemade papers, and when I saw the call for entries in the latest issue of Beadwork, I knew I wanted to see if I could use some of the binding techniques for a book made entirely out of beads. Hehehe... We will see!!!
