e-subscription

Here is my question for those in the know. I plan on getting a tablet in the near future, and I was wondering about the way the-subscription works. Am I able to get the e-subscription on both my PC and my tablet or is it limited to just one?

Oh Lordy. Working on the strap section, I worked out that going right is an even row, back left is odd. Following the instructions, not adding 2E when told, it doesn't turn out like the diagram. I thought that maybe adding the 2E on row 28, 32, 35 etc at first and then not the second 2E might work out but no. Esp when it says that decreases occur on the right side of strap (i.e. not adding 2E) but then do you need to drop down without adding a 15.

Some places on the diagram have an extra 2E mostly on the left side, but sometimes on the right. There is also not a row in between the 15 turnarounds.

The middle part (row 64 etc) is also very confusing. Usually I can just follow a diagram no matter what the instructions.

Any help????

It's the Feb/March issue (the current one with Jean Powers' project on the front) on page 52. It's by Glorianne Ljubich. I have also emailed her personally.

Creating Beaded Horse Tack

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum, as semi-new to beading. I work with seed beeds and do brick, peyote, and loomwork, and a little bit of embroidery. I am looking to create my first horse tack set (western breast collar and one-ear headstall.) However, I'm not sure what stitch would be best.

I would consider doing a tubular peyote for the headstall as the diameter of the leather is not so large. However, there is no way I'm doing it for the breast collar because it is a pretty solid and wide piece of leather. I'm trying to figure out how to back the beadwork, if I need to, how to, etc. I've never done much of any real backing before. I also am at a loss as to what backing material to use.

I need a material that is very sturdy, won't rot or tear with heavy use or by getting covered in horse sweat. Obviously, I'd like to use leather. However, I don't know too much about leather. What kinds are appropriate? I've heard buckskin will rot with horse sweat. And is there a type of thread that is more appropriate to use to take my beadwork onto the backing? (something again, that wont rot when exposed to the elements).

I am a newbie, but just got to the end of making this bracelet. However, the ends do not line up properly and the ending with row 16 does not make sense. Would love to hear from someone who knows what I am trying to do.

Hey, last night I made a pair of earrings, RAW (yeah me!) and I used some new thread I had purchased - KO Thread. Some of the major bead weavers in our Bead Society highly recommend this type thread so I thought I would buy me a few spools and give it a try. Guess what I REALLY liked the way it worked with my beads! and I am a big user of Fireline. Now, mind you, this was a small project (though it was an advanced pattern) and I don't know how I would like it in a bigger project. Guess I will have to wait and see. Anyone else like the KO Thread.

Questions re: Different Stitches

Okay, first off, I'm relatively new to bead weaving but I'm very good at following printed instructions. As a result, I can make beaded jewelry up to the intermediate difficulty level. I don't just wish to bead various pieces designed by others though but to come up some of my own designs - designs I can imagine though not how to execute.

To that end, I feel it's important to not just know how to do the different bead weaving stitches but why they're used. For example, why choose to bezel a cabochon using peyote rather than right angle? That's just one question (among many) I have about bead weaving. I really want to understand the reasons behind the different stitches. To me, it's very important. How and where can I learn more please?

I asked this question in another forum and only had two responses. One mentioned checking out Jean Campbells Stitch Pro in Beadwork magazine and Jean writes a good column in which I've learned lots. But not enough. The other reply mentioned taking bead classes but it's not practical for me. I'd prefer to have something online that I could print out so I could refer to it until it's been hardwired into my brain.

Flat 2-drop peyote - need to figure out how many rows

So I'm making a beaded lampshade with 2-drop peyote. I did dummy rows to figure out how wide each panel needs to be but now I'm stuck on how to figure out the height. If I was just doing a random pattern it wouldn't be a big deal but I want to use specific designs. So how do I figure out the height? I'm using Muyaki sz 11 delica.

Need opinions for a new project (beaded lampshade)

So I found an older lamp with a beautiful bright blue base and a ratty shade at an auction over the weekend. The first thing I could think of was "I can make a beaded shade for that!" (I can never seem to get ideas out of my head and the amount of UFOs I have just seems to get larger but I can't help picking up things I know I'll never find again). The base also has a larger S-shaped handle (I believe the base is brass except the blue glass). Overall it reminds me of "I dream of Jeannie" or something that would be in a harem. So - my question is how should I do the panels (there are 8 - larger rectangles - shade is straight). I've thought about using wire and just doing a random pattern across. Or doing peyote panels and then stitching them on there (and if I do that should I do all panels the same or different?). This is the largest project I've ever taken on so I'm trying to have as much planned as possible. Any input is appreciated Thanks!

ERRORS in the ebook on Right Angle Weave

An ebook entitled “Right-Angle Weaving Instructions +

5 Free Right-Angle Weave Patterns” was published online

on 10/12/2012 by Beading Daily. It contains several ERRORS.

(1) "Diamond of Pearls" by Trang Gordon.

That pendant project was originally published in Beadwork, February/

March 2011, page 48-50. There is a published correction listed

on the Beadwork correction pages, but the error was NOT corrected

for this ebook.

The correction states:

In Step 3, Layer 2 should read: Work double-needle right-angle weave,

repeating Layer 1 but using the inner A from the previous step as the

inner side of each unit and the D from Layer 1 as the corners (Fig. 4).

(2) “Magic Carpet Bracelets” by Margo Field

In the ebook, Figure 5 is repeated as Figure 6 and the actual Figure 6

is left out. This error did NOT appear in the originally published

project in Beadwork, August/September 2004, page 27 - 29. See the

original article for the correct Figure 6.

My name is Kristen and I'm a final year Occupational Therapy university student in Cardiff, Wales, UK.

I have enjoyed beading for over 10 years and decided to use my hobby as a subject for my final year paper that I have to research and write. I've tried to get volunteers face to face and have been finding this difficult and now with a deadline fast approaching I'm beginning to panic. If you could spare 5 to 10 minutes of your time I would be forever thankful. The title of the paper is "An exploration of beading as a meaningful creative activity with adults."

All it involves is you answering some questions. The questions are...

1. Can you tell me what it was about the activity of beading that first drew you to it?

2. Can you describe how you feel when you engage in this activity……..

3. What would you say you get out of it?

4. How much time do you usually dedicate to this occupation (activity)?

5. What relevance does it play in your life?

6. How would you rate this activity on a scale of 1 to 5? 5 being extremely meaningful and 1 being of no value at all....

The recently published ebook on Herringbone Stitch, contains

the "Therapy Necklace" by Margo C. Field. There is an

ERROR in Figure 4 of that pattern.

That necklace was originally published in Beadwork, August September 2002.

The following month Beadwork published an "OPPS!" Figure 4 is incorrectly drawn. The Nine-Bead Leaf Dangle is made in this way: String 6 beads and pass back through the fifth bead (in the opposite direction from how it was originally strung). Then string 3 more beads and pass back through the first bead.

Questions regarding bead weaving crystal bicone bracelets

Hi Everyone! I hope I'm posting this in the right spot... I'm new to beading. I'm working on a Swarovski Crystal Bracelet and I just had a couple questions. I'm going to post the link for the bracelet I'm doing so you all know what I'm talking about. http://bead-tutorial.livejournal.com/16688.html

1. This bracelet is one sided - the back is not pretty. My question is... do bracelets turn while on the wrist or would the pretty side stay in place?

2. Usually I've been going back through my crystal bracelets again with the beading thread to make it more secure (but my designs have been really simple thus far). Would it be a mistake to do it with this bracelet because it doesn't sit flat (so if my first strand broke, the other would warp the bracelet anyway, wouldn't it?)

I hope I've made sense. Thanks in advance!

July 2012 "Right on Track Bangle" bracelet - warning

There's a misprint in the materials list. You need 120 Tilas, not 102, as it says. (3 rows of 40) This may not seem important, but if you order from FMG as I did, their Tilas come in 10g tubes "approx 110 beads per pkg", so if you order one tube per bracelet with the thought of "I'll have a few extras", you'll actually come up a few short. I learned this the hard way when I came up a mere 4 beads short of finishing my bracelet yesterday :(

Anyway, hope that saves someone some trouble. I think these are really pretty and plan on making a few... once I get more beads. Will be calling some local places tomorrow...

love the new magazine...really really love the twofold earrings, and the shimmering fan earrings, but they both use 3mm bicones, my local bead strore doesnt carry them, or she doesnt have ANY 3mm beads....what else can i use??
