Hi there everyone, Pleased to meet you all. I'm in the UK and love to make mixed media jewellery. I use Tim Holtz pieces, upcycle and re-cycle old jewellery, adapt house-hold bits and pieces, make my own art glass cabochons, and have just ventured into stamping metal blanks. I do this because i love being surrounded by pretty, interesting things and its a hobby and pastime and almost happy accident that im able to sell my creations as well. Im far too lazy to blog or spend hours promoting my wares, id rather be making the stuff than cropping photos and listing it!

Here's an example of my latest faze.

After browsing through the replies, one of my favorite medias for making jewelry seems to be pretty low on the list of items, and--considering it's versatility, as well as it's availability--I wonder why?

What is this easy-to-come-by, natural, and extremely versatile item? Why, WOOD!

Here is a pendant that I made last year, primarily from wood (the disc is Ziricote, and the shapes on top of it are: on the left, Olivewood; on the right, Yellowheart), but it also uses a 12X8mm Malachite cabochon and some 16ga round, half hard, sterling silver wire. Admittedly, these are exotic wood scraps, but even a piece from a maple tree branch from a tree in your back yard can be used in a jewelry project!

I'd really like to see more people using wood in their designs!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To reply to the rest of the posted question: I make very, very few pieces for myself: I almost always give my jewelry creations to friends! For me, the joy is in the making. Sometimes the piece is intentionally for a specific person, but often, I find that I've made something with no particular party in mind, and then I just hang onto it... It's not usually long before someone comes along, though, that belongs to the piece, and I gift them with it!

Thanks for letting me comment!

Regards to all!

rory, Northern Lights Creations College Place, WA 99324

Re: Let's talk mixed-media jewelry!

I personally experiment with all kinds of mixed media (which I love!).
