I don't think that you are trying to "get over" as it were. As I understand what you are saying, you would be falling close to crossing some of the guidelines, but I don't think that you are crossing the line by far. As long as you comply with the number of posts and amount of items, I don't feel that you would be wrong. If you get out of line with it, I'm sure that someone will let you know without being rude or obnoxious about it. Nice matters and we all try to keep that in mind. Go ahead and post your bead and what you might be seeking for trade and we'll go from there. Thanks.

I am uninterested in selling beads here, that's what shops are for. I'd rather swap beads than sell them (especially for some kinds of bead); and the only reason any of my beads are up for sale somewhere is because, not having discovered this community at the time, I'd nothing else to do with them.

My questions stem from having read the original post. I read it, reread it, then posted my questions, because it doesn't address my particular situation. Is it in fact stating that any beader who, not yet having discovered this site, put up some of her destash for sale in an attempt to get her stash under control, is unwelcome to conduct any swap transactions here whatsoever?

The purpose of the rule seems to be to keep in individual beaders trading beads they don't need, and keep out commercial companies from basically overrunning the boards with spam. And rightly so.

I do sell some of my destash on another site. Say I have an artisan bead, I can't use it, I've not listed it for sale and I'd rather trade anyway. According to my understanding of the rules, I and my artisan bead are unwelcome to swap here because some of my other beads are listed somewhere.

No amount of rereading the original post is going to clear up this confusion. In fact, it would have been monumentally stupid of me toclick on this topic and post a question without ever having read the original post.

Re: Bead Barter Guidelines

ToniT:

1. Go to Forums
2. Go to General Beading Discussions
3. Go to the bottom of General Beading Discussions
4. At the left-hand side ( in this block), click on Bead Barter

If there are things for trading, they will be listed below the "Guidelines" post.

I think you will find some guidelines that may help you make a decision.

If these beads are posted on any other site for sale, you cannot list them here. You can only list one a week. And only 8 items within that posting. We all have items to destash but think that some common sense is what they are asking.

Another thought would be if you are willing to take other beads in trade rather than money? I hope this and the original posting will help you decide if this is something you should do or not.

I am not in any way speaking on behalf of the site, just a member hoping to help you out with your question.

I put a lot of them up in etsy before discovering this bead barter forum. I have no resale tax id or any of that fancy stuff. Less than once a week I'll get a sale from that destash, of about $3. Does this make me a commercial vendor? Does $3 a week at most make it an occasional source of income?

I wish to respect the rules of this forum, and not post here if I'm not wanted.

Re: Bead Barter Guidelines

Alastar Dragonfly:

Stan, please feel free to comment on anything. The site is based in America so freedom of speech still applies. However, if you see something that is offensive and/or profane that I missed, please let me know and I will take care of it. Other than the staff, I am the only Moderator at this time(that I am aware of anyway) and I may miss things from time to time, so any pointers are greatly appreciated. If you want, you can just e-mail me and no one will know about it except us. That way, there can be no hard feelings among the members, ya know.

I was a Senior Moderator at GameTalk.com from August 2000 until a few months ago when Mike shut the site down for revamping. I really enjoy the job. It gives me the warm fuzzies to know that I am a part of the crew and all of that rot, ya know. *grinz* Michelle was too cool to give me the job when I volunteered for it. I just hope that i can do it to her expectations, ya know.

Yeah, that would be me doing that. I leave them up after they close long enough for all parties involved to see that it is over, then I delete them. I figured that it would be easier to keep up with current trades if there weren't a lot of old closed out ones, ya know. You can see immediately what's currently up and all that stuff.

If there is something in particular that you would like to see put back, just let me know. I can do that too. All deleted threads are kept in an archive and can be restored in the same way that they were removed. Easy peasy, ya know.
