New BeadingDaily Challenge/swap ideas?

A while ago we held our own unofficial BD challenge (like in Beadwork magazine). It'd be fun to do it again, but with a theme this time. Any ideas?

A note on how the Challenge works:

Last time we did the Challenge, we had 5 participants. This time we'll have however many sign up by the deadline, so the 5 referenced in the description may or may not match the final number. That said, here's how the challenge works: Everyone who signed up would send 5 identical focals or sets of beads/findings to the swap coordinator (that'd be me) by a deadline, plus enough to cover postage of the completed kits. Once all the stuff has arrived, the coordinator puts together a BD Challenge Kit from all the different things people provided, and sends the kit to the participants.

The rest of it works the same way as the Beadwork Challenge; we all make something using *mostly* the beads in the kit, rounded out with our own materials when necessary.

For example, LB sends in 5 identical sets of firepolished glass beads, BC sends in 5 tubes of seed beads, SA sends in 5 coils of colored craft wire, and BB sends in 5 identical lucite flowers. I realize some of this may vary due to handmade nature (like my handmade clasps) but as long as they're clearly the same style and line and size, and the same process was used to make each, it counts for our purposes as 'identical'.

National Seed Beading Month

Some of you might be aware that November is National Write a Novel Month or NaWriNoMo. The idea behind NaWriNoMo is that you have to spend every day in November writing, and the goal is to accomplish 50,000 words before the end of the month, which is probably a good first draft of a novel.

So, Dulcey Heller, a Beadwork magazine contributor, wondered if we should make November National Seed Beading Month - NaSeeBeMo - with the same idea. You sit with your seed beads every day, even if it's just for fifteen minutes. And you'll probably be really surprised at what you can accomplish!

I love the idea behind NaSeeBeMo because between working, writing and spending time with my young family, my beads often get pushed to the side. For me, forcing myself to make time to spend with my beads every day would be a welcome challenge, especially with the two big projects I need to have finished before December 5!

What do you think about NaSeeBeMo? Will you participate and blog about it?

They're finally here! Everyone has been so patient, and I'm very excited to announce that we have three new Bead-Alongs for the month of April!

30 Day Challenge For Craft Month - March 2012

I found this 30 day challenge at Fusion Beads for Craft month. I thought that with all the challenge excitement around here, maybe you guys might be interested. I took a look at the challenge and it looks very lightweight, and has something completely different to do every day. So who wants to try this with me? If you miss a day, no big deal, the idea is just to try simple, new ways of thinking. For those of us in the Spring Swap, a lot of these daily challenges can easily be incorporated into our swap challenge, so we don't have to worry about getting overwhelmed with two challenges at once. So who's with me?

I found the Bead Fest shows, but they are pretty far, adding $500-600 for travel and accommodations. Anyone know of wire workshops in New England? The Whole Bead Show doesn't have what I'm looking for and various Internet searches haven't turned up anything.

I got my new Beadwork (April/May 2012) and on page 12 was the Challenge. There is a blurb under Jennifer's necklace entitled Name This Necklace. It gives a website address to go to in order to submit a name for her necklace. I tried to go there, but it said it didn't exist and I can't find any link anywhere on the website. Can someone help me?

Where are the rules for the new upcoming Bead Star contest? All I can find are the categories.The notice states that the rules will be available "next week" but that was almost 2 weeks ago. The magazine said the rules would be available January 9th. I have decided to enter and need the exact rules. Did I just miss them?

Hey guys,

Sifting through the emails this morning and opening today's Beading Daily email, Jen has brought up the great 'Earring Challenge for January 2012'!

I tried to do this is September but unfortunately I ran out of steam and momentum but as they say: "If at first you don't succeed.. destroy all evidence you tried!" haha! kidding.. NO! you try try again!!! And so I shall!!! But now that I have given myself a bit of warning, I can give my brain a head start (coz lets face it, she gets a bit slow at the end of the year)..

MY RAMBLING ASIDE! Who would like to join me with this challenge?! It will be fun and a great way to start off the new year! I'm sure Jen will be trying it again.. and we can showcase them at the end of the month Hooray!!!
