Bead-It-Forward for 2010

For those of you not familiar with this annual charity project, beaders create beaded squares which are then stitched together as quilts and auctioned off for breast cancer research. Every year there is a theme to the squares and this year is turtles!

I just want to thank the person who made the earrings that I received today. Unfortunately, you didn't include your name or contact info. So, for the one who made the beautiful 4 aqua drops with the adorable blue enameled fish hanging from the bottom, thank you so much! I am a Pisces & love to collect fish, so these are just perfect for me. Again, thank you so much and I will enjoy wearing these earrings. Whoever you are, I will think of you every time I have them on.

This was a fun project that I hope Beading Daily will do again. I love to get surprises and this was a surprise. I was wondering for a long while what I would get, then I forgot about it. So, when my package came in the the mail today, it was such a nice surprise & it put a smile on my face & cheered me up after having 2 crowns in my mouth made this morning & going thru another rainy dreary day today. Thank you for organizing this.

I'm just back home from Thailand where I met some enormous ivory beads (daxdesigns.blogspot.com - Bead adventures in Thailand post number 4 ). I've got some ideas about where to next (Bead adventures in Thailand post number 6) but would like some more ideas about my next steps - what would you suggest?

Hello Beading Daily Family!

The Beading Contest for ALL TYPES OF BEADERS is BACK!

I sent out an email blast earlier this weekend to members of The Beader's Muse newsletter letting them know that I had launched USE THE MUSE II. Even though most of the active forum members here are on my list and seem to have ALREADY signed up to participate in this event - I'm sure there are plenty of lurkers and people who have not yet joined the list. So here's all you need to know!

USE THE MUSE II has LAUNCHED! This beading contest has GONE GLOBAL*! There is a strict kit limit to allow me to handle the volume and ensure a fair prize to participant ratio. The last day to sign up for your kit is SATURDAY, JUNE 27TH - however kits are first come, first serve, and they are already going fast! If you would like to be part of this community beading event for fostering creativity and beading with the MUSE, please sign up as soon as you are able. Once kits, are gone, that's it! So far I've had tons of repeat participants sign-up, but I'm also super excited because I am already seeing International sign-ups from Netherland Antilles, London, Australia, and Belgium ! I would LOVE to get participants from all 50 states.... and I am using a Google Map to track everywhere the MUSE goes. I will be updating on my blog very frequently to call for participants from the states I haven't gotten yet - sign-up, represent your state!

It’s Not Easy To Do Ugly! Your mind and eye won’t let you go there. As research into color and design has shown, your eye and brain compensate for imbalances in color or in the positioning of pieces and objects – they try to correct and harmonize them. You are pre-wired to subconsciously avoid anything that is disorienting, disturbing or distracting.

There is a man Larry Hamm that is in need of help. Basically he is a diabetic that has lost his health insurance and his disability has not kicked in yet. He has been told that he needs a $17000 surgery to save his life. If he does not have this surgery, then he has 18 months to live.

The Indie radio station Blockhead Radio has put together a radioathon and silent auction to help raise funds. Many on Artfire and other places had donated items for the silent auction, myself included.

Christmas in July Sale on Artfire

I just wanted to pass on that there is a Christmas In July sale going on on Artfire. There are over 128 ( I think that was the last count I saw ) studios having sales. There is a little bit of everything and it is all handmade or supplies for crafts.

Community Bead Party

I thought I'd share this with you because of the great response. With the food shelves getting so bare because of the economy I wanted to do something to replenish them. Two weeks ago I hosted a community bead party. So I got the city and the local newspaper involved to get the word out about the party. Each person attending had to bring a least 3 or more unperishable food items along with their beads. Anyone new to beading could buy beads from me and I ended up teaching a class. The local Cub Foods and pizza joint donated food and refreshments. What we accomplished that day was very satisfying...and FUN!

My next task...I'm putting together some bead kits for my daughters bead party with her friends. The kits are $12, I'll be teaching the class and the proceeds go to the local animal shelter. Now if I could only get Cub Foods and Pizza Hut to donate food for us.

One of these days I'll need to get back to reality and do my day/night job(s). UGH!
