Is anyone planning to atted this weekend's Inter Gem show? Just wanted to spread the word. Friday-Sunday www.intergem.com

If anyone has gone to this show before can you tell me if it's similiar to the beadfest?

I am hoping to stock up on some more great finds!

My Splurge at BeadFest

Hi everyone,

I'm back in the office, though my body is not quite in the correct time zone yet! It was great to meet some of you at Bead Fest Philadelphia.

I wanted to share a photo of my big shopping splurge at the show. This is a "tortured heart" pendant by Zoa Art. The designer Tony adds the nails into the soft glass during the creation process. When I saw it, I knew I was doomed to buy it! http://www.zoaart.com/

I'm going to string it on a plain black cord so I can wear it right away while I think about how I want to use it. I'm thinking that it's so striking that any necklace I make for it will probably be fairly simple. (If you have design suggestions, I'd love to hear them!)

I'm going to be there, and I'm so excited! It has been six long years since I have been to Bead Fest Philadelphia, since it's the closest one to where I live - about a seven hour drive from the Adirondacks to King of Prussia! I'll be teaching all day Sunday, looks like I don't have any students signed up for my Saturday night class (yet), but I'm going to be visiting with friends and family who live in the northern/western NJ area, too. And, of course, gathering lots of ideas and things to write about for About.com!

I'll be at the Meet the Teachers reception on Friday night, so if any of you are going to be there, please come up and introduce yourself so I can meet you!

BEAD FEST VIDEO WORKSHOPS!

Did you know we have video workshops so you can "take a class" at home?

I had to post this little pitch for our DVDs. I have a special feature going into our Jan Feb issue of Step by Step Beads by Ronna Sarvas Weltman, a talented polymer artist. She wrote reviews of a few good teaching DVDs by other known polymer artists. She discusses why she likes these DVDs, and what you learn. She herself started out using one of the DVDs, and her work, as you will see when the issue comes out, is really fabulous.

So I thought, wow, she learned so much by watching those videos, about techniques, tools and materials. She clearly was inspired and empowered by what she learned, to develop her own original designs. And though nothing beats taking a Bead Fest class in person, travel isn't always possible. So what's the next best thing? BEAD FEST VIDEO WORKSHOPS! You can buy the DVDs or download the videos online, and learn from a master right in your home. You can find the workshop DVDs for sale right now in the Beading Daily online shop!

But you'll have to wait until December for the polymer feature and the Jan Feb issue of Step by Step Beads. After all, next to taking a class and getting the video, our magazines are the best place to learn how-to!

Applying to teach at Bead Fest Shows

Has anyone else here applied to teach at the Bead Fest shows? I've been applying (unsuccessfully) for a few years now, and my frustration level is rising. I asked for some feedback as to why my applications were being rejected, but all they could give me were the criteria by which they rank the applications.

Anybody else have some suggestions? I'm not sure if my images are not good enough, or my kit prices are too high or what. I am confident that my designs are good (because they've been good enough to get published in Beadwork!), but I don't know what else is nixing my applications.

One thing I know is working against me is that I don't have a lot of experience teaching at big conventions. I have taught privately for about five years now, and have been very successful at that.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is anyone going to the Bead and Button show this weekend? This will be my first time going and I am taking a class, "Itching to Etch". Cannot wait to go and see all of the BEAUTIFUL BEADS! I certainly will be hypnotized!

Bead Fest Shows for 2009!

2009 will be another very exciting year for bead and jewelry enthusiasts everywhere! Bead Fest is back in Santa Fe, and will be held at the Sweeney Convention Center and Hilton Hotel from March 12-15. Bead Fest - Wire will be held at the Valley Forge Convention Center from May 1-3. Bead Fest Philadelphia will also be held at the Valley Forge Convention Center from August 20-23 – our largest bead show! The final show of the year, Bead Fest Portland, will be held at the Oregon Convention Center from September 24-27. All of our shows offer a wide variety of vendors, classes and of course, beads! Hope to see you all there!
