Beth I am so glad to see you posting again. I am praying that your shoulder heals real fast and you are able to start beading again soon.

Do as Sheila says and follow the doctor's orders to a tea. When I was doing hand theapy there were several doing theapy for shoulder surgery. Sheila is right don't over do it or you can do more harm than good.

Beth - So sorry to hear about your shoulder! Hubby had to have one about 3-4 years ago. It was two weeks before he could dress himself. Not fun! His arm was in a brace thing that velcroed his arm to his waist for 5-6 weeks. So we feel your pain! However, be sure to do what the drs say and don't push too much too quick.

Oy, that makes the 8 inch scar on my shoulder ache just thinking about it. I had that done when I was 22 and it took me out of comission for 18 months and I had surgery 4 times before it was fixed somewhat! I was young and naive and allowed a butcher to operate on me. He not oly operated, he did it a second and third time and basically threw up his hands and released me when it still wasn't fixed after the third surgery. I ended up going to another surgeon in Charleston who had to cut 2 inches off of the end of my collarbone to keep it from binding on the shoulder ball. The first surgeon reconnected a torn ligament and basically just tied it i a knot around my collarbone and it pulled it down too much and pushed the end into the ball. The second and third surgeries were to cut little nicks in opposites sides at an alternating pattern in the ligament in order to help it stretch and become longer. It helped a bit but did not fix his screwup. The butcher is A. Mason Ahearn and I wouldn't let him operate on my dogs. I tell everyone that I meet to stay the hell away from him for any kind of ortho work. He shouldn't even be allowed to practice, but he does. Dr. Edward Hay is the guy that fixed it. His biggest claim to fame is that he's the guy that fixed 'Broadway' Joe Namath's knees.

I hope that everything goes well for you. I know how much of a pain that the sling can be. Do they have you in a swarth as well? I had to wear that thing so that the shoulder was completely stationary and all of that. I don't think that a loose sling would be anywhere near as uncomfortable. All of that in the heat is even worse. I'll say an extra prayer for you, it's the least I can do. I know how you feel. Be good and heal quickly.

Well one time when I taught a beading class I gave the class some clips with holes in them and they could string beads onto head pins and attach them to the clip.

Oh beth that is NO FUN! Sorry to hear that it's put you out of comission for the whole summer.... now winter wouldn't be so bad to miss out on. But summer? *sigh* no fun. Hope it heals quickly for you!

Ouch Beth!!! I hope you heal up soon and that stops hurting you! It seems all you can do at the moment is relax...maybe that part isn't such a bad thing. We've missed you, so I'm glad to hear from you but .... ouch. Anything I can do to help you?

Beth, so good to have you back! And sorry for your shoulder. My Mom got a similar surgery and had to keep her arm in a sling for several weeks. And she's a very crafty person, too. So I wish you all the best and fast recovery!

What you've missed? I think, Cat gave you a good hint with that thread. There are some swaps challenges running, Lita plans a "well travelled bead" (search for the thread), many fantastic jewelry pieces in the showcase......so look around and when you catched up, you'll be ready for beading again!

I haven't been on the forums for a while, because I had shoulder reconstruction surgery the latter part of May....at 6-weeks doc said I had to wear my sling for another 6 weeks before even considering physical therapy...I was bummed. My recheck is Aug 4th, so hopefully things will improve by then. Anyway, I haven't been able to spend much time on my computer, and when I do it's in little spurts of time, so I don't get much done.

I've been going through all my beading and jewelry and polymer clay books and magazines, so I can't wait to incorporate some of those ideas into new jewelry pieces! ! !

I thought I could use this down time to organize things, but there's not a lot I can do with one hand (and it's my left one at that). Even hitting my mouth with a fork is a challenge, although I must have mastered that one pretty well, I've not lost much weight ! ! !

Hello everybody, it's good to be back. What have I missed?

we are terribly sorry for making you feel unwelcome! i have been absent for a couple days and am catching up my reading. the best way to get responses is to just get out there and post some comments of your own. i have been a member for a while and at first i too felt a little neglected until i figured out no one knew me. i just needed to jump in with both feet and now i have become fast friends with quite a few people on BD.it may take a little time but it is worth the effort.

I think the buy one and take it apart option is the one I would probably do. I have done that with a few things in my time. Clothes, swags, purses...lol. I think I just like to destruct and then reconstruct...and try to not have "spare parts" lol

I was in walgreens the other day and saw these combs you are talking about. They are pretty and look very easy to do if you just buy one as a model and go to it :) They came in a 2 pack for something like 7.99 or 9.99 i dont remember now. I was very sick when i saw them, i was there to get antibiotics for bronchitius and a sinus infection. It's been 3 days and i'm already feeling way better, thats some good antibiotics they gave me :) But then again im comparing to the fact that i usually don't go to the dr and i regularly get sinus infections or bronchitius :P

Thanks for your reply, and I hope you are feeling better...I haven't been to Walgreens lately, but will have to go check them out. My daughter and grandaughters have long hair, so they would probably enjoy these. They can't be too difficult !!!
