5 Peyote patterns e-book

I am new to Beading Daily. I have downloaded a few patterns and some beading tips. I have tried to download the e-book with 5 Peyote stitch patterns and every time I do, I get a message that states that there is a problem with the document and it cannot be opened.

Regarding preorders...it would be nice to know

It would be nice to know the approximate ship date so we know when to expect the order. I just preordered Best of Step by Step Wire 5th anniversary edition. Nowhere does it say when it is planning to be shipped.

I love love LOVE my beading magazines, but, I travel, often for many months at a time. Do you have a digital version of the magazine so that I can download it to my computer and take all my favorite beading magazines with me?

Ok I don't know what is going on with the site, I can log in, go to any of the forum pages.... but as soon as I click on a specific thread I get this error message

Map of members?

After seeing a posting from Jeni about adding another country to our members, I think it would be cool to have a map of the world with a little dot for each member's country ( and if possible for each US State ).

I think it would be cool to see how many different countries are represented ( as well as States but I don't want to limit to just Americans ).

Maybe we could go even further with one color dots for ladies and another dot for the men...just out of curiosity.

Even if we can't do a map maybe some kind of master list. It does not have to have cities even. But the map would be good because I am not the best with geography so a map would help me.

Just a thought!

Critique Thread or Blog

Hi, fellow beaders,

I was excited by the idea of submitting a project to the next Creative Jewelry edition - (Jane Dickerson, editor). I have been playing around with copper wire and sheets for a number of years now, but never made jewelry. So when I finally put together a necklace and earring set I wore it proudly, showed it off via photos to friends and family. I received a lot of oohs and aahs and generally enthusiastic compliments, which left me with a big head . I submitted this piece happily. Then started to REALLY look at it, uh-oh -- there are little things off: crooked, not quite even. >>Red Face<< Of course, the editor turned it down, very kindly. I expected it, but felt terribly embarrassed for wasting everybody's time.

So here is my question/suggestion: How about having a "general critique" blog, where one could submit a picture of the work then get totally unbiased critique from fellow enthusiasts? Not just ooohs and aaaahs. - Sometimes, after working on a piece for many hours, we are blinded to little "off" things, and a critique would be quite helpful, if not for that particular project but for a future one. It would also help avoid major embarrassment if the piece is meant as a gift.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Anne and I am a new beader. I love it but I am still a the stage of using patterns and pictures to do my beading; I haven't gained enough "know-how" or courage to try something from scratch.

With that said, I am looking for a pattern for barefoot sandals or footlets. I saw them at a farmers market ($20!) and I loved the idea. I just don't know how to start so if anyone has a free basic pattern so I can get started, I would really appreciate it.

Technical question about scroll bars

Hi there everyone,

I'm pretty new to this site and only very recently started looking at the forum. I seem to keep encountering a technical problem: Often when I click on somebody's post I can only see the upper part, which shows the person's name and then the scroll bar is missing, so that I cannot scroll down.

Any ideas how to overcome this problem?

Hi, I was wondering if there is an option on your forum settings that sets the links in the posts and in the signitures to open up a new browser window by defalt? I know that each person can do this on their own posts by using the "insert/edit link" button on the HTML bar, but sometimes I forget.

I've been meaning to post this for awhile, but other stuff has been stopping me. I'm not sure why except that it may be a bad idea. *laughz* I know that I can't be the only one who would like to be able to see the thread starter from the main fourm page. We can see who made the last reply from there, but not who started it. I'm one of the ones that has a very slow internet connection and I have it set up so that I see the last replies first because of that reason alone. The entire site isn't very friendly to us dialup users, so I do this to keep from rereading through several pages to get to the latest replies. I think that it would help some of remember what the thread started out as because some of them take some really strange twists and turns before it's all done, ya know. If we can see who started it, it just may help some of us more absent minded keep up with the origional topic.

Anyhoo, just something that has been gnawing at the back of my mind for awhile now that may benefit more than me and my stroke damaged brain. Short term memory loss can be very funny to people that don't have the problem, and I try to laugh about it as much as possible, but it does get old and rather quickly at that sometimes. Like I said, just a suggestion tossed out on the table.

Website issues (photos especially)

I thought you might appricate (I hope) some suggestions for the webpage. My IT husband and I searched the entire page for a "contact us" link, and this was the closest thing we found, and that took me 10 minutes to find. Most webpages have a link at the very bottom that allow users to send an email to the webmaster, usually to tell them of a problem within the site.

I also think you need to find some other method of allowing users to post images. We tried (and yes, we did find the user's instructions posted) for 30 minutes, with no success. I have to admit, being able to get feedback from others about my designs is at LEAST half of the reason I wanted to parcitipate in a beading community. If I'm not able to do that, then, sadly, I might as well find another one that will. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE look into this! If not, then you need to post VERY CLEAR and PRECISE instructions for how to go about posting photos.

Beading Instructions - Basic

Hi, I see Melinda wrote about how most people don't follow the instructions on projects she's spent so much time creating.

Truthfully, I wish she would take a stitch a month and show it completely. Most projects assume, "start with a row of xxxxx." Well, looking at the back of the book with such sketchy illustrations, I can't figure them out.

I had worked as a secretary in the nursing education department of a local hospital. The nurse educators would write directions of how to operate some of the equipment. They used me, someone who was not a nurse, to follow the step-by-step directions they wrote. If I had to stop during the process because it wasn't clear, they re-wrote the directions. The "floating RN's" really appreciated such clarity.

Take someone who has never done any of the beading stitches and give them directions. Note at which points they get lost then re-write the directions. Sometimes when someone is so advanced in their craft, they can't think like the beginner.

Possible Bead Swap Option

On another thread, it was being discussed what to do with beads that you don't need anymore. ( We don't dare say unwanted as all beads are wanted correct...)

Someone posted ( I apologize as I don't remember who ) that thought of swapping beads. Many of us loved that idea. One person's trash is another person's treasure idea.

Several options were tossed around about how it could be done. By weight, by size of standard baggie ( 2 inches by 2 inches example ), however.

So is it possible that we could get some kind of option or extra page where we could list this stuff so that others could get it? We are not talking about selling these, just an even trade. If we could have a page where I could list a posting for a 2X2 inch bag of various manmade hematite up for grabs. Maybe also have a "WANT" column. Then if I want some blue glass beads, someone can contact me that they have them. I know that this is not the best examples but Artfire has a page where people can list what they are wanting and what they are willing to pay or trade for it. Something like that idea.

The Bead Trader

The economy is down, bugets are tight, unemployment is high....this can be a tough time for us beaders to buy beads and supplies to fuel our creativity. The Bead Swap post seemed to take on a life of it's own so here is a slightly different idea.

I am suggesting a post where beaders can ask for specific items and what they would trade for them and for others to post what they have that they do not want and what they would like to get in trade. No money would be used. Contact for trading could be made through emails.

Something like:

Jane Beader posts that she wants 4mm emerald swarovskis and she has 6mm amethyst rounds she would use in trade to get them. John Beader (no relation) wants the amethysts and has the swarovskis that Jane wants, so he replies to Jane's post and sends Jane an email.

Let me know what you guys think, Hopefully Michelle sees this and can help out with some advice.

I also sometimes do sketches , but the best way I have found when laying out ideas is to take a digital photo. As I do changes I can then scroll thru the pictures to help me remember which layout looked best.

So far, it's been 21 weeks and no sign of the first issue.

I have not been getting my e-mails for this site and have e-mailed customer service repeatedly and have gotten no reply... I have the right boxes checked - the e-mail is not going to my spam folder so I can do nothing more on my end.

I don't know if this belongs here, but I would love to see a class developed by the editors of Beadwork magazine about how to write instructions. I try to copy the format from the magazine when I write my tutorials, but I always fail miserably, because there's just something in them that I'm not getting. There's just something that I can't wrap my tiny mind around to make them work.

Not that I'm trying to put anyone out of a job! LOL! I would just like some assistance in writing up my directions before I submit them to the magazine so I don't come off looking and sounding like a total buffoon.
