Outdated and dead links

On the Bead-A-Long page, not only are links from 2012, but the earrings links are all dead links. Maybe it's time to update them? Put something new on? Anything at all. I notice that most posts are pretty old and tired.

What's going on with links?

Whenever I write or reply to a post, the "chain links" are greyed out, so I can't add links to posts.

Is it just me, or is everybody getting this?

I guess it's one way to combat spam, it's just inconvenient.

The Reader Photo Gallery has always been a hassle for me. For instance I was just there looking for the results of a suggestion made within the last few days. Jen suggested that TCWhit make a new gallery for "Emerald" and we could all post our emerald pictures there............ so I went and looked for it today.

When I hit the gallery, the newest items show up first, as they should. But no new gallery shows up labeled Emerald, so I asked to search by name........... then the whole mess is reorganized, and not in alphabetical order as I would have thought as "name" suggests. But starts with some letters then comes closer to the beginning of the alphabet, but if you go to the last page it does end with Z's.

Searching for something by name would indicate to me (a dedicated database geek) that a box would show up and I could type in Emerald and it would come up with only the items labeled emerald....... but no.

Can we have a tutorial on how to use the Reader's Gallery, or better yet some better way of using it? I've been on the net for many years and have run into some sites that work and some that don't. I'd like to see Interweave invest in some positive changes for the Beading Daily site. We all love it and I personally check into it at least twice a day, I'll bet others do too.

Going to the Tuscon Bead show for the first time

Hey everyone, my husband surprised me today by telling me that for my Christmas gift, he is going to send me to the Tuscon Show. What an awesome husband. My question is, does anyone have any reccomendations on where to stay, where to go, how to get around, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lynn

I didn't have time yesterday to purchase the Resin DVD Get your copy of Exploring Resin Jewelry-Making with Susan Lenart Kazmer on DVD nor her mixed media DVD that appeared on the same page. I am relatively sure that they were on sale but today when I did have the time neither DVD were still on sale...what gives with this switching so rapidly? Thank you.....

Bead Names vs Bead Numbers

i've just spent a frustrating half hour trying to find a bead from the june/july Beadword magazine with no results. i love the idea that the bead names are now listed, but to tell you the truth, the name is often whatever the seller decides to list it as. so far i've seen at least 2 and sometimes 3 names for the same bead.

it would make the search so much easier if, instead of bead names, bead magazines would list the bead number because that is almost always universal. this would eliminate much of the search that goes on when trying to find a specific bead mentioned in an article. i realize that sometimes a seller will add something at the beginning or end of the bead number to identify it in their inventory, but i believe the basic number is still inside all that.

this is just a thought i've had over the years that pops up everytime i can't find a certain color of bead, many times not even at the place listed in the source section of the pattern. but that's a thought for another day.

How to remove antique finish from findings

Sometimes when making a piece of jewelry the findings I need just aren't the right color. I'll need say a bright silver finding, and all I'll have is an antique silver finding. I've found that using nail polish remover on a cotton swab will remove the black, and I'm left with that bright silver finish I needed. I'll rinse with water, then polish with a jewelry cloth. Works for antique gold findings too. Hope this helps someone else too.

Beadwork Magazine Forum?

I think it would be great if you had a forum just for people working on patterns in Beadwork; it could be organized by issue. Of course, it would be great to have separate forums for other magazines, or sub-forums. Have you ever done this?

Hi Everyone,

My name is Anne and I am a new beader. I love it but I am still a the stage of using patterns and pictures to do my beading; I haven't gained enough "know-how" or courage to try something from scratch.

With that said, I am looking for a pattern for barefoot sandals or footlets. I saw them at a farmers market ($20!) and I loved the idea. I just don't know how to start so if anyone has a free basic pattern so I can get started, I would really appreciate it.

Photo Software: Lightroom vs. Photoshop vs Picaso

After today's blog post and reviewing Jim Lawson's photography demo...I am wondering about Lightroom. I know I need some photo software but had been leaning towards Photoshop Elements. (Hadn't heard about lightroom...guess I was in the dark, hehe) Does anyone have any thoughts on this?? I gather Lightroom is a stand alone program,but doesn't Photoshop Elements have "lightroom" as part of the program? I'm so confused!!

I have used Picaso in the past, but found that it took over all my pictures and albums. It could be that I didn't put enough time into learning the program. If you have experience with Picaso and either Lightroom or PhotoShop Elements and can compare them for me....I am looking for an ease of use comparison. I don't want to spend days and days trying to figure the program out!! Thanks for any and all help!

Hi all!

I just joined the forums recently and I've been looking all over for a topic that I can't find but I'm very interested in. I need to learn much more about the art of photographing jewelry, it is very difficult to do and I am sure that there are many tips and tricks which people use to get good photos of their creations. Without good photos, it's not possible to upload pics to this website, or even to start an e-store to sell your work.

So I was wondering if the subject of "Photographing your jewelry" might be a good new topic to enter into the forums? People who need to learn could get many good tips from those who have been getting good pics and know the "ins and outs" of it.

What do ya think? Thanks for any input!

Tulip beading needles

Has anyone else tried the Tulip beading needles? I purchased the Tulip 11.0 needles, and I'm in love with them!! Well worth the price. I unfortunately have old eyes, and these needles are so easy to thread. I love seed beading but hated threading the needles. And how many times do we unthread the needle by accident?

Now it's a breeze. The gold on the tip of the needle makes it easier to see. I've used them with 15.0 seed beads that I had to pass thru several times and had now problems whatsoever. You just have to try these. They've improved nerves so much. LOL
