crimping problems with cord and cord substitution

What synthetic cord is most like cotton thread? I found that the cord is a little stiff. Or am I just being overly aware? I've been making very long strands with seed beads and accuflex and I broke one - or my cat pulled it apart. I've been threading the ends of the piece crossing by eachother through a few inches of bead including two crimps that I placed in the strand a few inches apart from one another, and crimping on either side a few inches apart. I heard that you can tie a figure 8 knot and crimp right on the figure 8 knot. Any suggestions? The crimp actually cut through my wire once! I haven't seen any evidence of this happening to anyone else.

spring submission deadline?

The deadlines listed in the Stringing submission guidelines for '09 for submitting projects have all past. Can you tell us what the submission deadline is for the Spring '10 issue, and when you will be posting the new deadlines and themes for all the '10 issues?

Okay, I just finished and hit the send button for an idea to Stringing magazine. I included a couple of photos as well as an alternative one so that they can see how the same idea can be used to make something completely different. I realize that these are talented people and would be able to guess that, but I just thought it was a good idea.

I hope that I wasn't too wordy. I gave an explaination of where the idea came from, quick instructions of how to do it, and why I like the bracelet. I realize that this is probably a long shot but a year ago I would have never even thought of submitting an idea. So this was a HUGE step for me.

I will let you all know the second I get a yes or a no [:'(]. I do realize that by not trying the answer was a big no! Here's to hoping...

Idea for submission

Okay, so I am going to take the big plunge and work up an idea for Stringing magazine. I would love to submit idea this for a possible project. But, how do I do that? I have e-mailed them but with the holiday, I don't know how long before I get a response.

Has anyone submitted a project to them yet? I know that I will have to submit instructions and photos. Do I submit everything at once? Do I just submit it to the regular e-mail address?

Stringing using stretch cord

Hello everybody! I am trying (for the first time) to use stretch cord when making a "bracelet" for a watch. How do you attach the cord to the watch. Do you use crimp beads? It seems like they might cut the cord. This may not be a good idea, but it seems like I have seen this type of thing in some of those catalogs I get by the hundreds in the mail!!! Any help would certainly be appreciated.

For the Stringing magazine challenges you are only allowed to submit one entry per person for the challenge but I notice that some people submit pictures with a necklace, earring and/or bracelet's. Is that allowed, can I submit a picture of a necklace and a pair of earrings, does that count as one entry?

Clasp used in Stringing Winter 08

There is a bracelet in the Cameos section that uses a sterling silver 25x18 oval box clasp with mother of pearl cameo inlay. The piece has 2 names, Victorian Impressions and Victorian Brocade by Elisabeth Murray. I could not find where the artist purchased the clasp from, and would like to know where she found it.

By the way, I love this issue especially the pieces with Vintaj components.

Stringing Technique Books

Can anyone recommend a great stringing technique book? I have been doing simple stringing for about a year and would like to try to get more advanced with my technique. I know that there are different ways to string back through etc to get different looks. I have learned a few through trial and error ( ok a lot of errors ) but thought a great book would be very beneficial.

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Writing a submission?

I've been wanting to submit pieces to Stringing (among other magazines) for some time now. However, I have an issue that keeps me from doing so. I'm severely dyslexic, and the task of writing step by step instructions for a piece is, well, frightening. I can write steps that make sense to me, but will leave the agerage person in tears trying to decipher them.

Can anyone offer some helpful pointers to writing submissions that would make it a little less scary for a first timer with "issues"?

Are the submission deadlines for the 2009 issues of Stringing finalized yet? The contributor guidelines posted on the web end with the winter 08 issue. The deadline for that issue has already past. I'd love to know the deadline for submissions into the spring issue.

I was thinking of entering the Strining Challenge Black & White. So basically, I make the piece and take a photo. I enter that photo and if I win then it is published in the magazine.

Do I need to submit instructions at some point? Is that piece still mine so that I can sell it at a later time? What all do I need to remember like the specific beads, where I bought them, cost?

Sorry for all the questions, but I have never entered before. Right now I have about 10 projects going so I want to know if I need to keep those beads separate so I have all the required info later.
