I have Jacqui Carey's Beads & Braids on loan from the Library.  Have to say, I am a little disappointed to find that only the Round Braid (the one from Bead & Button) lends itself to the 'bead every time' method of braiding..  There are some interesting ideas and useful info in the book but I expected something different...Oh well... back to the web searching...

I had to at least give something a try and this is it....Different..!!!  What do you think..???

I have no words.  It's unusual.  Library is a great source so is the web.  jeannie

Oh jeannie, you made me laugh...I was stuck for words at first and I can tell you that 'unusual' was not the first word that came to mind.....I have been wearing it for a few hours now and it is growing on me...like 'fungus'...have to admit that the way it is shaped, it does hug the neck well and therefore stays put....but do I want it to, that is the question.  Will have to wear this one for work tomorrow and see what comments I get...

Would this be a good candidate for....The "Ugly Necklace" Competition...???

Guess what....I have a new word for it...."Floored"...I wore it for work and I had not even reached 'clock-in' and had already got an order for two (2) from one of the people I know from work, but I don't work with her....she told everyone....it became an attention getting...by the end of my shift I had orders for NINE (9) of them.....NEVER have I had that many orders in one night for anything else I have made and worn to work....That's why I am FLOORED... guess I will have to find a decent name for it now and withdraw my entry to the Ugly Necklace Contest...

I think it's pretty wild - the magenta pink color is what makes it so outrageous.  I'd like to see it with different color combos.

Did you braid around a form, or it it the added beads taht give it the wild shape?

Hi Lita....It was just a long snake braid.  You shape it as you want and then use Fireline to go thru the braid adding the beads in the spaces....Took a little over an hour to make.  I have only a few dollars invested in the 'masonary line' and chech glass beads and I am selling them for $25 each.... go figure peoples taste....!!!!

Not my colors, but definitely cool and different! But I wouldn't say it's ugly. I love the curves.

That's really cool!  I don't particularly like the colors, but the shape is fantastic.  I actually drew a picture of a necklace I saw in a store window in Spain that was in a similar style but different materials.  I was trying to think of a way to make something like it, and this is definitely it!

Congrats on all the orders-that's even better!

If it were me, I'd gladly make your 9 orders, (yippee!) and then ALSO enter it in the ugly necklace contest. Not like any of the people who ordered it would ever know. This year's ugly necklace contest has some new rules--it has to be purple, so think of an ugly color to go with purple, (red? bright green? brown?) and add some uglier mismatched beads in place of your current beads.  They also want a certain percentage of it to be actual beads, although I can't remember exactly. I think too many people were entering things made out of drain pipes, flower pots, etc. Their definition of "beads" is pretty loose, though. I was thinking of trying to make some "beads" out of wadded up duct tape. Also, I would make it less symmetrical--like slightly askew--like you tried to get it right, but missed. And make some threads poke out here and there. :-)

WOOOOW~ just goes to show you, we never really know what people will be drawn to. I think the necklace has some real potential, and real versitility... it REALLY reminds me of some ancient green gold jewelry. Could look very elegant done in shades of gold, OR kept looking sort of pop-rock in the wild colors.  You'll have to show us photos of the different color combos you make!

Well, I have to tell you - I LOVE IT!  It is not ugly!  I love to be different!  It's a good thing!  It reminds me of the hard ribbon candy you can get at Christmas!  It would be great in those candy colors!  I love it!  Did you string seed beads and braid them and then form the loops with fireline adding beads between or is it a beaded spiral??? I haven't done much seed beed work so can't really tell how you did it.

well, I read all of the post and my curiosity is killing me! The picture just shows up on my computer as big red letters that say "McAfee". I don't know why my computer does that but I miss out on alot of great pictures because of it. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I've just got to see this neclace!

God loves us all! Angel
