good morning:
am i off my nut or does it seem to others that the "beading daily" posts are all about selling us something? i don't remember the last time i've learned something...anything. i've been pretty disappointed with the turn the newsletter has taken. i opened todays excited to find out how to make resin beads only to find out i have to buy the december issue of a magazine to get the directions. at least every other day some new book or subscription is being advertised. please tell me: am i wrong?

Monda, Wednesday, and Friday are the newsletter days; the others are advertising, I think it's a cheap way to pay for the website. I don't mind it 'cause I know it's expensive to run a GOOD website, and a neat newsletter.

Yes, but I've noticed over the past couple of months even the M-W-F blogs tend to have a very strong tie-in to something being published or aired on TV. I get that they want to highlight the current magazine issues, but the blogs used to be a bit more free of that. It's getting to the point where I just skim over them and delete it because there's not much interesting, and I already look at the mags so I don't need a recap.

I have no problem with the resin bead post as it shows what you can do with them. Just the instructions how to do the whole necklace are in the magazine. I can also see how the ads pay for the BD website, but a bit less ads in the blog posts would be nice. Recently I often skim over the posts, too, cause there are not many interesting things for me to try or read, but that's just me and my opinion.

I'm with you Jeni and Dagi! Lately there seems to be a lot more advertising than there used to be. I didn't mind it before but now it seems like we are getting less and less of all the informational newletters we once did.
Before I realized the forums were here I always looked forward to the daily newsletter. I had many ah ha moments, since I was learning everything and still am. They did help a lot. Even though I've gained more experience I still liked to read the newsletters- could be for a trick to a certain technique I didn't know about or of the like. Now it's just constant advertising it seems.
I wanted to say hi and welcome to you, Mary.

I'm glad to know others share my opinion of Beading Daily. It seems to be all about money and less about art. Furthermore, I don't like gimmicks - it's an insult to our intelligence. I also find their magazine projects more suitable to an intermediate beader.
I prefer BeadandButton.com. Forum members receive email notification when a response is made to their inquiries. Their magazine projects are tested - with instructions easier to comprehend for the "beginner" beader.
Editors should take note - we're here to learn. If we were experts, we would not need Beading Daily.
I agree with Jeni and Dagi...I already subscribe to a few magazines and I too don't need a recap. The advertising is getting a little out of control, but when I open my email and see that it is advertising, I just delete it...but I guess it's what have to have to see since those advertisers are probably what keep the website running.

Yes, it's worse now than when I last posted in Nov. When it mentions a new 'whatever', and I go to read about it, it justs wants to sell me a 'new' book.
When I get back from Tucson, I'll wait 'til the end of Feb., to see what it's like before I decide whether to cancel my subscription. It hardlyseems worth having it.
Hey there.
Well, I sure spend a lot of time on how-to posts so I'm not sure what this is all about.
Yes, we do tie ins to our products--that's our business. We do have to sell SOME stuff, and we offer a ton for free, more every week. But we never, EVER intend to be insulting. Can you explain what insults people? Our advertising is quite clearly that--we have products we love such as books and videos and we want you to know about them. There's no subterfuge.
But you are correct that Tuesdays and Thursdays are wholly promotions, connected to topics from that week's posts.
As far as repeating things--we have new members signing up every minute, so sometimes you "regulars" will see familiar things that are new to the new kids on the block, or ads for magazines you already receive. On the web, we have to recirculate from time to time for the newbies, so skim the stuff you've seen, or kick around on the forums as you do--but you never know what may be new for YOU.
When we run beginner stuff I hear complaints from the pros, and when we run intermediate stuff I hear from frustrated beginners. We aim for a balance, and can't please everyone all the time with just one site.
Always listening, always growing,
Keep the feedback coming.
