Hm, I never heard of Vellux bead mats......  I just bead on my table, which sometimes is desastrous, when I tip over a seed bead box or when 1 of my cats want some attention....

     Kimmie!

I bead and bead and bead and bead... And when I am not beading, I am taking pictures of my beadwork, blogging about it, or trying to sell it here and here...
Please take a look around, and let me know what you think...

Ok....as the mats (9x12")  are pretty easy to find and about 99c each, though I buy a three pack at Roberts with a 40% coupon, I'm curious as to the need to buy by the yard.  What are you guys doing with it?

Obviously if you're going to cover a table you need to buy it by the yard unless you want to start patchworking :)

    Re: Vellux by the yard?

Mikki my local Michael's carries them but they are only 6X6. 2 of them in a pack is well over 4 dollars and that size for me at least just isn't large enough.

I would rather buy a large blanket for $10 and cut it to the size I want and have multiple bead mats. Now for wanting to buy it by the yard for something else I have no clue unless they are just wanting to find a better price.

My local bead store has mats they cut up themself for sale. They appear to have come from either by the yard or a blanket as well.

Other than I wouldn't have an idea either so maybe someone will chime in with another idea for us beaders!

Kimmie- the Vellux bead mats would prevent your seeds from rolling all over the place. Well they prevent all beads from rolling everywhere. If you would like I can send a small one to you.

Chrystalinya -- I'm sure you would love using a Vellux bead mat! The fabric has tiny upright fibers that hold the beads still, yet allow you to pick them up easily with a swoop of the needle.

And Cat, the reason I was hoping to find Vellux by the yard is that I need larger pieces to use in making some beading accessories I have in mind. Also, I can't afford to buy a whole blanket in every color I'd like to have!

Someone mentioned black Vellux, which I have often wished for, too -- and in my online efforts, I did see black listed among the colors available for one of the two types of Vellux blankets sold at JCPenney! I may have to break down and get one of those... a lifetime supply of black Vellux... :-)

    Re: Vellux by the yard?

    All,

We have the 9x12 bead mats for 75 cents each in the store - all kinds of colors from dark green, lavender, pink, blue, lt green, cream and more.

Inca, I wish I'd known sooner, I'd have cushioned your wedding beads with a mat or two.

    Radiance,

How big do you need the Vellux to be? I can get it in approx. 3' x 6' pieces in light green, light blue and I think a cream color. It runs about $10 per piece - I think. (I seem to remember paying that much, but it was 3 years ago.) That size worked well for my needs until we got the HUGE table for classes. Now, I really need something that's at least 4' x 8', which I why I'm interested in Vellux by the yard. I guess I'm either going to have to sew 2 together or buy a blanket at Wal-Mart. Decisions...

For everyone wanting to buy the blankets to cut up-

Kohl's either in store or online is a great place to get them when they are on sale. Especially this time of year they start their sales with 50% in home products. You can usually get a Vellux blanket for about $10. Just a thought!

Home Depot, Menards', Fleet Farm, et al, all have them in varying lengths.

Mikki, great idea -- if I ever spring for the black blanket, I promise to share!

And Deb, not that large, really -- two or three feet square, tops. But I've gone ahead and bought the blanket, a cream one... it's in the washer right now, and I'll make my prototype super-duper beadmat tomorrow. Hope it works! Carol
