I remember when it was a brand new subdivision too.  Colorado has been growing like crazy in the past few years.

Sherri:  They still have room so I am planning on submitting my application and pictures and see if I get accepted.  If I am and come out, I will have a substantial amount invested in this one show.  In your experience last year, was there a good turn out for the show, was it well advertised, were attendees balking at artisan prices, exepecting more of a craft show type cost?

If you could let me any or all of the above I would really appreciate it.  Steamboat is a pretty good drive for me but would consider it just a fun weekend if I can break close to even.

Thanks for your help.

Oh yea, and I will split the cost or pay you per transaction if I can tag onto your credit card set up.  Let me know.  :)

That is COOL Laurel!  I hope that you get accepted.  I haven't had a chance to look at your website yet, but i will be willing to bet you'll get in!  Then we could MEET!!  That would be too cool, to meet a fellow BD member at the Steamboat show!

Yes, there was a good turnout last year at the show.  However, before last year, I hear the turnout was better, because the venue had been in the same place for 30 years.  Last year they changed the venue (location) for the show.  This year, more people will be aware of the location change and more people will show up.

People were not balking at the prices.  People in Steamboat have lots of money to burn.  I only sold 9 pieces of jewelry and grossed about $750, and my booth was in a far back corner.

We will have to keep in touch if you get accepted!  If you stay overnight, check out the Rabbit Ears Motel -it's $89 a night and its supposed to be pretty nice - nevermind what it looks like on the outside.  Then we can go out to dinner after the show and talk about our successful sales!

As far as the credit card transactions - my monthly limit is $3K and single transaction limit is $500.  Its possible that either of us might make that in a single day at this show, so I would suggest that you not hesitate to check into www.propay.com - it is not expensive (annual fee $35 and up) and you could get set up with your own account quickly!  Get your knucklebuster on eBay from Mr Imprinter - he ships the same day - you can get a good one from him with credit card slips for a mere $28!

 Sherri:

My hubby and I are going to come up.  I already sent pictures and application to Racheal and she said to pay my money and come on in/up (not down :).

Are you only staying one night?  If you are staying two, do you want to split a condo with us.  It would only be $200.00 for you guys if we get a one bedroom with a queen fold out sofa.  Check it out at

http://www.mtn-resorts.com/Steamboat_Springs_Vacation_Rental_Reservations.php?ID=53

Hubby and I would pay for the majority of it as we would be staying 3 nights.  We are thinking to come up Friday, he will ski Saturday, I will do the show.  Then Sunday we both will ski, then we will head back Monday.  Let me know if you are interested.  If you are staying two nights would probably save you because you can eat most of your meals in, except our celebration dinner of course.  :)    But if you are only going for one night, it wouldn't work for you.

I think I am going to get a credit card over the cell phone app for my iPhone.  Hubby builds cell towers all around Colorado and guarantees me coverage.  (he will be in big trouble if I don't have it.  LOL)

It will be great to meet you in person though.  I have a lot of jewlery making to do between now and then.  :)

Hi Laurel,

My helper and I are only staying one night, and that would be Saturday.  Thank you for the offer though!  It will still be a fun meeting you and going out to dinner in Steamboat.  It will be a fun time!  There's a place we want to try that serves ostrich - not that I want to try ostrich, but we had happy hour there last year before we went to dinner at a different restaurant and it was pretty nice.  Can't remember the name of it but I think it had the word "grill" in it.  I'm open to any suggestions though!  We can play dinner by ear.

My goal was to make one piece of jewelry per day between now and December 5 (the day of the show) but I am WAY behind!

We'll keep in touch and I'll send you an email once the booth maps get emailed.  Maybe we can at least introduce ourselves before the show opens!

Congrats on getting in!

Sherri

Man, I wish I could go too!  I didn't get invited to the big fall bazaar here, but I am going to do the smaller one that I did last year.  Hopefully it will go well.

Sherri, you should try some ostrich!  DH has had some and said it's very good, and it's supposed to be good for you as well-nice and lean.

Best of luck to both of you, I hope it goes well!

Wow, I really wish I could join you, it sounds like it'll be tons of fun, and hopefully very profitable.

I've processed several credit card transactions with ProPay, and it's working great.  The knuckle-buster is a bit of a pain (sometomes literally), but you can't beat the price!  THANKS to Megan for recommending them!

Have a beadiful day!

BTW, Sherri, I got the knuckle-buster in the mail yestereday -- THANK YOU for forwarding it!  I don't think I paid you for the postage, how about if we subtract that from the invoice I e-mailed to you?  I've been having trouble with Yahoo today, but wanted you to know I got the package.

Jeni, yesterday was Christmas, because I also got your package.  WOW!!!  What beautiful jewelry!  I'm going in to the shop early tomorrow to do some serious display work.  Thank heavens I also got an FMG order yesterday with necklace busts and other jewelry display fixtures!  Because of the ultra-long day, I won't be online tomorrow, but will tty on Sunday.  (((HUGS))) to you both!

Have a beadiful day!

Oh good, glad everything made it safe & sound, and cool that you're set up for credit cards now!  That should boost your biz a bit more hopefully.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone.  I am excited as it is my first fairly big show.  I will let you all know how it goes and will let you know how the cell phone charge card thing goes too.  One of the instructors used it at Beadfest in Portland.  It was pretty cool.

Sherri:  We can definately meet up somewhere, sometime that day.  Then I can meet your mysterious "helper" too.  LOL

Ostrich huh?  That might be fun to try.  I did try alligator once.  :)  I will ask my husband and son what is a good place.  They work and stay in Steamboat a lot.  If you ever want to email a little more directly, you can email me at    Maybe at some point we can even exchange phone numbers.

Thanks again for telling me about the show.  It will be fun!

Thanks for your email addy Laurel!  I've added you to my address book, but you might want to edit your post and delete it.  You never know when some nonmembers might add you to a list to send out SPAM.  You know that you can contact other members without advertising your email address by clicking on the "CONTACT" button by any of that person's posts.  Its a safer way to contact each other and share email addresses.

And by the way, we've kind of/sort of made a "rule" here on the BD, that if any of us members meet, we are encouraged to take a picture of those members together and post it on the BD.  It is fun to share that with the other members, and perhaps motivates others to meet each other, too.  I hope you'll agree to let my helper take a picture of us to post on the forums!  If you're not comfortable with that, that's okay.  We never want to force anything on anyone, do we guys?

Hmm, maybe I'll try it.  I do like most foul but I don't like duck.  If we end up going to that restaurant, maybe I'll try it.

And by the way, I wish you could come with us, too!  Big Smile

Yes, I got your email about receiving the package, I just haven't replied to it yet.  Your check is already in the mail.  Besides, I need to pay you for postage for sending the swarovski snowflakes.  Lets call it even, okay?

Laurel, I missed the bit about you getting the iPhone merchant services app.  Let me know how that works for you, would you?  I can't use it over here unfortunately, but I saw it in the iTunes store a while back and was curious for future reference.
