Hello from Newbe in Fairbanks Alaska

    Hello everyone.

I saw your site and was very impressed. So I joined. (Not a lot of people just bickering and name calling instead of keeping to the subject matter. I hate that!!!)  I have done a few bracelets and ankle  bracelets with stretchy cord. I saw these 'EZ Double Combs' on one site and again on another site called 'Hairzings'. They are also made with stretchy cord. I have been looking for hours every day for the past 2 weeks for any information on how to make these. When I came across your site I saw that you do have people that work in this type of material. So I thought, it wouldn't hurt to ask if anyone knows how to make these or can point me in the direction of where I can find out how to make these.  Also, I downloaded from your site a project for the Faerie Queen Cuff by Deb Mausser. I have always wanted these and now I think I will be able to make them myself. I figured that these would be an easy way to start. We have a few stores here that carry a small supply of beads and supplies. So when I get really into this I will probably do what almost everyone else does here - order on line.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Sue

WELCOME Sue! There's no name calling around here, though I won't mislead you and say we stick on topic (there's a lot of thread hijacking! I'm one of the WORST offenders) But even when we stray, it's always fun conversations! One thread I started showing a design got totally off topic, and we ended up talking about my bird ( the one in my avatar). Not that I would complain! I am always willing to talk about my feathered helper. But that's an idea about how our conversations go around here.

ANyway, I LOVE the stretchy cord for bracelets. I have a TON I've made with crystals, in nearly every color. SO nice to just slip them on and not mess with clasps. I think someone was asking about those hairzings a while ago, but I'm STILL not sure I even know what they are. I think Pam has seen them... I'm sure she'll post here soon.

Well, hope someone is able to help you with that one, but even if we can't, stick around. We have LOTS of fun, lots of help and ideas available. ANd the more you post, the faster you'll make friends. I love it, I don't have any beady friends in real life, so it's nice to have some that share the beading addiciton!

     Welcome Sue,

There is another thread about this same topic under the Forum Feed Back and Suggeston Box.

But I'm afraid that one isn't having anymore luck with answer either.  But don't give up sooner or later someone will figure it out and I'm it's just a matter of time before it gets posted.

Everyone is always willing to help.

Thanks to everyone for replying. I found some great pictures of some and transfered  them in my documents. I can't figure out how to post them here for you to see. I found them on EBay. They are listed as - 6 sets EZ Combs Stretchy Bead Double hair clips Ezcombs. The item # is - 170347649831

Maybe someone can see these and figure out how to do them. I have been trying but so far, I am not getting it. I hope this might help all of us.

Here's what she's talking about.  The pic is from the Ebay listing she mentioned above.  I've never seen them before but they would be relatively easy to make I would think.  Very cute idea.

Nice to meet you-glad you joined us!  Melinda should be saying hello soon too-she's up in your part of the world.

Hi Sue!  We left Fairbanks 5 years ago to travel, sometimes I really miss it.  Welcome to the site.  Hope someone can help you with your designs, sorry, I am not that creative.  We still call Fairbanks home. Going back in the fall for a visit.  There used to be a great bead shop on 2nd avenue in the artists lofts across from the cafe and jewelry store and next to the college.  This is a great place, you;ll love it here.  Kim

Hi Sue, welcome to the forums!  Here's the thread http://www.beadingdaily.com/forums/p/2983/22491.aspx#22491   that talks about Beaded stretchy hair huggers (e-combs,hair zings).  I don't personally know much about them, but I do remember that thread and they look pretty easy to make.  I don't know where there would be a set of directions or a tutorial for making them, but you might check http://www.jewelrylessons.com/ There's likely something there.

Other than that specifically I do think you'll like Beading Daily.  We are a great group of people and we care about each other a lot.  We have a really fun time making, talking about, swapping, and just plain enjoying beads and beading.

and here's a link to the auction, ...Jeni, I can't see the photo for some reason so I just put in the link.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170347649831&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm38.l1313%26_nkw%3D170347649831%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

It was me that got us off-topic on that one Lois, I'm at least as bad as you are with that, maybe worse!

Stay on topic ? ? ?  What a novel idea, but what IS this topic, from which we are not to stray?  I had the impression that anything beading related was the rule!  Wink

Melinda,  I had to go into town around noon today and it was 84. I live outside of town and it is a bit cooler here.

Re: Hello from Newbe in Fairbanks Alaska

    Hello Everyone,

It is now 1:30am and I am still at it, trying to find a pattern or instructions for the stretchy hair combs. I have seen quite a few sites where other people are also looking for them. No one seems to be able to find anything.

I found the only thing thus far available. The Patent for them. I found this under Free Patents online. They are listed as Stretch Comb Hair Retainer. You have to sign up to be able to view the diagrams. As it is 1:30am I can't make much sense of them. Maybe tomorrow. I am just so releaved that I was able to find something. Now I can go the sleep.

Tomorrow I will try to find as many sites as I can and let those people know where to at least start.

Thanks to everyone. Have a Great weekend.

    Sue
