I think the reason for having to put customs forms on APO mail is just to keep the host countries happy.  Even thought the military handles the mail, it does fly into European airports sometimes so technically customs officials have the right to inspect it.

I'm glad we didn't have that problem when I was in Japan, but then that was  the last half of the '50s.

There are so many Mary's, the Gyspy Mary is a nickname I got, years ago, Camping and  traveling with my kids. Inca found (2) maryb on the BD. So, at her suggestion, I changed my nickname here.
