Well, awhile back we were discussing patterns for puffy/3D hearts using crystal bicones, but I can't find that discussion.
However, I did find a FREE pattern, through the Michaels website. Here are a couple links for everyone:
http://www.michaels.com/online/pdf/25431.pdf This is for the heart pattern itself. Disclaimer: I have not myself tried this pattern to see how easy/difficult it is; it's not the one I received at the class I took (the pattern for which I can't release, even after checking with the instructor).
http://www.michaels.com/beads This will take you to the Beads section of the Michaels website. I haven't checked out everything yet, but I have perused several places linked in their menu. Might be another good place to find free patterns.
Happy Beading!!

Hi Betty
I have just the thing for you, if you go to the below link you'll find a free video tutorial of a puffy heart. There are two different other heart bead projects too and many other tutorial.

Betty:
Don't despair! A few people were discussing the puffy heart pattern during a class I took at my LBS a few weeks ago, and none of them were able to complete it. One woman said she took a class three times, and still couldn't get it done. The LBS owner, who was teaching the class I was taking (not the puffy heart class) said that the only time she offers the class is as a private session, because it's so difficult.
Just keep at it, you'll get it eventually.

I see two issues after just glancing at this tutorial:
1. The pictures aren't great so it's a bit hard to see what they're doing.
2. It's done in 2 needle crossweave, which drives me batty! I'd rather do it with just a single needle, but that's just me.
No wonder people are having a tough time with this!
I have a beaded puffy heart tutorial with both written and pictorial! Simply use this tutorial: http://www.beadjewelrymaking.com/Kid_Art_Project/Kid_art_bead_project/february2006kid_bead_project.html and replace all long bugles with 3mm or 4mm crystal bicones!
Happy Beading!
Just beautiful! Thanks, for sharing both the pattern and the how to. I am new to this technique, but your tutorial looks like, even I can do it.
First, must make list to buy materials.
I promise to post the photo when I get it done.(Assuming I can get it done

Hey Mary, you travel around don't you? If you're ever in the Indianapolis area or NW Indiana area (my dad lives there), I'd love to meet up with you and show you how to do the 3d heart. The 3D heart was the first thing I did! We used 4mm beads and 11/0 seeds. You can use almost anything and make the heart bigger too if you keep it in proportion. I did a large heart with 6mm and 4mm crystals.
It's one of those patterns that once you get the hang of it, it's easy to do and as long as I have an example to look at, I can make it without any instructions.

Thanks for the free pattern!

Share your love with the world. This should be your mission in life!
I found this impossible to make until I had someone show me in person. But I didn't try this particular pattern.
Please do not get desperate in trying to bead the puffy heart shown on michael's pdf. I tried it three times without success. How come? Because little by little I understood. I just did not read the instruction properly. It is necessary to exactly understand what the instruction wants me to do. So I made notes, writing down like this: 2 + 1 = cross over - left 3 + cross over etc. Now I am ready to beading a puffy heart without using the instruction. Now I find it simple and easy.
Please compare your work with the pictures.
You may email me (perlen.hgl@googlemail.com) and I shall be glad to help you.
To your success!
