Bead Star 2013 Being a winner makes you a STAR!
SUMMARY
This contest is conducted by Interweave, a
division of F+W Media, Inc. (hereafter “Publisher”).
Entrants must enter the Bead Star contest via
the online entry form available at www.beadstar.com. All entries must be
submitted on or before the May 24, 2013 deadline (11:59 pm EST). Entrants can
submit as many entries as they wish in each category; however, the same entry
cannot be submitted in more than one category. All designs must be the original
work of the entrant and must be jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, or earrings). An
entry fee is required.
All entry materials must comply with these
official contest rules. Judges selected by the editorial staff of Beadwork and Jewelry Stringing magazines will choose the first-, second-, and
third-place winners in each category. The most exceptional of the first-place
winners will be awarded the grand prize. By June 7, 2013, all entrants will be
notified of their status via email. All
winners will be required to send their winning designs to arrive at the
Interweave office by June 26, 2013, so that they can be photographed for the
October/November issue of Beadwork and
the Winter 2014 issue of Jewelry
Stringing. The winning entries will be publically announced and put on display
at Bead Fest Philadelphia from August 23 to 25, 2013. Projects will be returned
by September 16, 2013.

ELIGIBILITY
All designs must be new, original, and not
available for sale and must not have won any previous contests. Entrants must
create and complete the finished design on their own, without outside
assistance. The Bead Star competition is open to adults over the age of 18 on
the day they submit their entry. Employees, vendors, agents of Publisher, and Bead
Star sponsors and related companies
and their immediate families are not eligible. Competition open to both US and INTERNATIONAL residents.
CATEGORIES
The Bead Star contest consists of 6 categories. Entrants
may submit as many designs as they wish in each category; however, the same
entry cannot be submitted in more than one category. All entries must be in the
form of handmade jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, or earrings). Remember, you
may now use seed beads and beadweaving techniques to create your entries for
any category! Categories include:
Crystals:
Designs created using predominantly* crystals
Glass: Designs created using
predominantly* pressed-glass, fire-polished glass, sea glass, lampworked glass,
and/or any other type of glass bead.
Metals
& Wireworking:
Designs created using predominantly* metal beads, components, and/or wire.
Metal can be of any type or mixed.
Pearls: Designs created using
predominantly* pearls of any shape, color, type, etc. Faux pearls (including
crystal and glass pearls), shell, and mother-of-pearl can be used in your entry.
Gemstones: Designs created using
predominantly* stones of any type. We will consider coral a stone.
Emerging
Artists: Open
only to entrants who have never had their jewelry published in a magazine or
book, including online magazines and books. Entries submitted in this category
can be made with any material or technique.
*By predominantly, we mean that when you look at
the project, it should be obvious that the category material plays a starring
role in the design. Beadwork and Jewelry Stringing editors and the judges
selected by the editors reserve the right to reclassify or disqualify projects
not meeting these guidelines.
ENTRY FEES
An entry fee is required to participate in this
contest. Early-bird entry (entries submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on March 28,
2013) is $15 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry. Regular
entry (entries received after the early-bird deadline but no later then May 24,
2013 at 11:59 p.m. EST) is $20 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry.
The entry fee must be paid by check or credit card using our online entry form.
HOW TO
SUBMIT
We are only accepting online entries for this
contest. All entries must be submitted on or before the May 24, 2013 deadline
(11:59 pm EST). To enter, fill in all fields in our online entry form. You will
be asked to upload at least one photograph of each entry. You will need to fill
in one entry form for each entry you wish to submit.
PHOTOGRAPHY
RIGHTS
By submitting the photograph(s) to Publisher,
you are giving your assurance that the photograph(s) are available for use by Publisher
for all of the purposes described in these contest rules. If someone other than
you has taken the photograph(s) or controls the rights to the photograph(s),
you are responsible for clearing these rights before submitting the
photograph(s) to Publisher.
WINNERS
Winners will be chosen for their originality,
creativity, and quality by judges selected by the editorial staff of Beadwork and Jewelry Stringing magazines. All decisions of the judges shall be
made in their sole and absolute discretion and will be final.
The judges will choose a first-place,
second-place, and third-place winner in each category. The first-place winner in
each category except Emerging Artists will receive $500 in prizes. The
second-place winner in each category except Emerging Artists will receive $250
in prizes. The third-place winner in each category will receive a one-year
subscription (or one-year renewal, if already a subscriber) to either Beadwork or Jewelry Stringing. In the Emerging Artists category, prizes will be
awarded as follows: $300 in prizes for first place, $150 in prizes for second
place, and a one-year subscription (as previously described) for third place. The
judges will also choose the grand-prize winner from among the first-place
winners. In addition to the $300 or $500 in prizes for taking first place in
one of the categories, the grand-prize winner will also receive an all-expense
paid trip to Bead Fest in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, from August 23 to
25, 2013. The trip includes round-trip airfare (not to exceed $1,000), hotel accommodations,
ground transportation, and meal allowance. Only one grand prize is awarded.
All entrants will be notified of their status
via the email address provided by the entrant by June 7, 2013. First-, second-, and third-place prizes
will be awarded to eligible winners as described in these contest rules by July
31, 2013. Winners must send their winning pieces to arrive at the Interweave
office no later than June 26, 2013. The contest winners will be published in
the October/November 2013 issue of Beadwork
magazine, and select winners will be published in the Winter 2014 issue of Jewelry Stringing magazine. Winners will
also be publically announced and displayed at Bead Fest Philadelphia, August 23
to 25, 2013. All entries will be returned by September 16, 2013.
Publisher reserves the right to publish
photographs of runners-up and/or honorable mention winners, although only the
grand-prize and first-, second-, and third-place winners will receive prizes.
GENERAL
RULES
Entrants reserve the copyright in all entry
materials subject to the rights granted to Publisher under these contest rules.
Entry materials will be returned to entrants, and Publisher shall have no
responsibility or liability for loss or damage to entry materials.
Publisher disclaims any responsibility or
liability due to the nonreceipt of entries owing to circumstances beyond its
control, including but not limited to late delivery or nondelivery due to defects
in the operation of the Internet and/or the hardware and software used by the
entrant or by Publisher.
Entrants must satisfy all eligibility requirements
before winners are selected and/or the winning entries are published and
displayed. If an entry is selected as a winner by the judges, but the entrant
is not eligible, and/or if the entry does not conform to the contest rules,
then the entrant and the entry will be disqualified and the next-ranked entrant
will be selected.
By entering the Bead Star competition, each
entrant is granting to Publisher the perpetual, exclusive, and royalty-free
right to (a) use the photographs and other entry materials submitted by the
entrant without photo credit(s) for the photographer(s) who took the
photographs, (b) photograph and reproduce the entry in the various print and
electronic publications of Publisher and the advertising, publicity,
promotional and marketing materials of Publisher in any and all media, and (c)
use the name, image, likeness, and biographical data of the winners in
connection with all of the foregoing uses.
By entering the Bead Star competition, the entrant
is assuring Publisher that he or she possesses the right to submit all entry
materials for use by Publisher as described in these contest rules without the
consent or approval of any third party, and Publisher is entitled to rely on the
entrant’s right to do so.
As a condition of eligibility, the winning
entrants may be required to sign and return an agreement in a form satisfactory
to Publisher by which each entrant formally consents to the use of his or her
entry materials including photographs, name, image, likeness, and biographical
data as described above. If requested to do so, the failure to sign and return
the form will disqualify the entrant.
Entrants are solely responsible for payment of
taxes that may be imposed by reason of the prizes awarded to them.
The contest is void where prohibited or
restricted by law.
