You know you’re a bead star—now it’s time to let the world know! How? Enter Interweave’s seventh annual Bead Star jewelry competition.

What you could win:

·         One grand-prize winner will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Bead Fest Philadelphia, our most popular Bead Fest event, which will be held August 22 to 24, 2014

·         $500 in prizes for first-place winners in most categories

·         $250 in prizes for second-place winners in most categories

·         A one-year subscription to Beadwork magazine for every third-place winner

·         National exposure in Beadwork magazine

·         Recognition of winning pieces at Bead Fest Philadelphia

 

How to enter:

The early-bird deadline for Bead Star 2014 is March 31 April 7, 2014.


The deadline for Bead Star 2014 is June 13, 2014. CLOSED

You may enter as many designs as you wish in each of the 6 categories listed below. The same design cannot be entered into more than one category.

An entry fee is required to participate in this contest.

  • Early-bird entry (entries received by 11:59 p.m. EST on March 31 April 7, 2014): $15 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry
  • Regular entry (entries received after the early-bird deadline but by 11:59 p.m. EST on June 13, 2014): $20 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry

 

 

Bead Star Official Rules

 

Categories:

The Bead Star contest consists of the following 6 categories. Entrants may submit as many designs as they wish in each category; however, the same design cannot be submitted in more than one category. All designs must be the original work of the entrant and must be handmade jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, or earrings) that meets the criteria for each category (see below). Remember, you may now use seed beads and beadweaving techniques to create your entries for any category!

Crystals: Designs created using predominantly* crystals 

First Place: $500 in prizes

Second Place: $250 in prizes

Third Place: 1 one-year subscription to Beadwork magazine

 

Glass: Designs created using predominantly* pressed-glass, fire-polished glass, sea glass, lampworked glass, and/or any other type of glass bead.

First Place: $500 in prizes

Second Place: $250 in prizes

Third Place: 1 one-year subscription to Beadwork magazine

 

Metals & Wireworking: Designs created using predominantly* metal beads, components, and/or wire. Metal can be of any type or mixed.

First Place: $500 in prizes

Second Place: $250 in prizes

Third Place: 1 one-year subscription to Beadwork magazine

 

Pearls: Designs created using predominantly* pearls of any shape, color, type, etc. Faux pearls (including crystal and glass pearls), shell, and mother-of-pearl can be used in your entry.

First Place: $500 in prizes

Second Place: $250 in prizes

Third Place: 1 one-year subscription to Beadwork magazine

 

Gemstones: Designs created using predominantly* stones of any type. We will consider coral a stone.

First Place: $500 in prizes

Second Place: $250 in prizes

Third Place: 1 one-year subscription to Beadwork magazine

 

Emerging Artists: Open only to entrants who have never had their jewelry published in a magazine or book, including online magazines and books. Entries submitted in this category can be made with any material or technique.

First Place: $300 in prizes

Second Place: $150 in prizes

Third Place: 1 one-year subscription to Beadwork magazine

 

*By predominantly, we mean that when you look at the project, it should be obvious that the category material plays a starring role in the design. Beadwork editors reserve the right to reclassify or disqualify projects not meeting these guidelines.
