I come from a long line of crafters. When I was a kid, all of my sweaters, hats, scarves, and mittens were crocheted by my maternal grandmother, and all without a pattern! When my sister and I were kids, my mom, thinking she would keep us out of trouble, taught us how to do needlepoint, then how to crochet...

A note from Jennifer: There are two kinds of beading pattern designers in this world: those who can create gorgeous flat peyote patterns and those who can't. Carol Dean Sharpe, owner of Sand Fibers , is definitely one of those who can. Carole's flat peyote stitch cuff bracelet patterns and finished...

These gorgeous handmade porcelain slides by Marsha Hedrick were enough to make me want to get back into making bead crochet ropes! Making bead crochet ropes was one of those things that I struggled with mightily until I had one of those "a-ha!" moments. Lucky for me, my mom was an expert knit...

Beaders are a generous group. They share beads, tips, even their chocolate on occasion. One of the most enjoyable aspects of Beading Daily is the community. There are fun beaders, serious beaders (who don't fool around) and everything in between. Here are some of the best tips from the Beading Daily...

Jean Campbell is the senior editor of Beadwork and a contributing editor to Beading Daily I was flabbergasted a couple years ago when Editor Melinda Barta asked me to be one of the first Designer of the Year (DOY) artists in Beadwork magazine. In fact, I had to take pause before I answered. On one hand...

Jean Campbell is the senior editor of Beadwork and a contributing editor to Beading Daily I can't honestly say I'm a fuzzy-fibers aficionado. Oh, I've learned to knit and I've attempted crochet, but for some reason, I haven't been able to wrap my heart around anything but a needle...

Kristal Wick is the editor of Beading Daily As a teacher in the creative field, one of my greatest delights is taking classes from other teachers. I'm just like you, I pore over the show catalogs, bending the corners of the pages to mark which classes I want to take, eagerly devouring each design...

Kristal Wick is the editor of Beading Daily Finally! The weather has snapped from a season of sweltering 90s to fall 60s-70s with the cool evenings in the 50s. I'm sorry you sun bunnies but I must confess, I love winter. I love snow; I love sipping hot cocoa on a silent moonlight walk crunching the...

Mixed media is a buzz term these days, but really, we all do it throughout the day: If you’re a cook, you might put chocolate chips into your chili, letting the sweet, rich flavor meld with the salty spark of the chili-infused broth. If you garden, maybe you’ve cut a sweet potato in half...

Simple and sensational lariats– What’s not to love about lariat designs? They can be tied or looped to suit whatever length you need. Many designs are fast and easy to make: Dangle a pair of big baubles at the ends of a cool chain. Tie clusters of crystals on the ends of a length of hand...

This is a perfectly portable beadwork. For this technique string all the beads onto the thread at the onset, and then use a hook to make stitches in the round, adding one or more beads within each stitch.

Resolve to Learn African Helix Next Year It’s a cliché and dorky tradition, but my husband and I light a candle and make resolutions on New Year’s Eve. We’re each allowed only one. And those amorphous “I’m going to eat healthier” or “I will strive to be...
