Continuing with your beaded jewelry design project, now that you've made herringbone stitch bezels for the beads, we're going to make the base to which they'll all be attached using right-angle weave. The base I like to use when making these beaded necklaces is a "v" shape that...

Warning: Long Story Alert. Last winter, my husband and I took a parenting class with our son's preschool teacher. One evening during class, I started noticing the patterns on the beautiful purple shirt worn by the teacher, and of course, my beady brain got to thinking about how I could re-create...

I find myself grabbing for a favorite pair of silver earrings from time to time, only to put them down again, regretting that I haven't taken the time to clean them. So I figured it's high time for me to dig out these tips on caring for silver jewelry that first appeared in the Winter 2009 issue...

In case I haven't mentioned it lately, I'm addicted to cabochons. If you take a look through my bead stash, you'll find drawers and drawers full of them -- gemstone cabochons, handmade ceramic and porcelain cabochons, even vintage Lucite cabochons and cabochons made from things like resin...

My two favorite fashion trends right now (it changes often) are the raw gemstone and druzy components showing up in jewelry! Last weekend I decided to bezel an agate druzy bead with gold to create a new pendant for myself--and I've received a shower of compliments! I used 1.5mm gold cubes for 5 rows...

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of receiving an advance copy of Lark Books ' next release, Suzanne Golden Presents: Interviews with 36 Artists Who Innovate with Beads . It was definitely one of those drop-everything-and-grab-a-cup-of-cocoa moments, because this is a book that I've been looking...

Bead Fest Santa Fe is just around the corner (March 14-17)! I always look forward to this annual bead show in beautiful New Mexico. Anyone who has ever been there can tell you why, but here are my favorite things about this sassy southwest show: 1. The instructors are fabulous. Every year, the Santa...

As a kid, I spent a lot of time playing in my mother's and grandmother's jewelry boxes. When it was time to play dress-up at my grandmother's house, I always gravitated towards a triple-strand vintage pearl necklace that I eventually wore to my eighth grade dinner-dance and my high school...

Design by Tracy Gonzales (for TierraCast) Everywhere you look, leather jewelry is a hot trend. At Bead Fest Philadelphia last summer, I saw lots of leather jewelry-making supplies, from the wonderful "licorice" leather for making fun beaded bracelets to fish leather for bead embroidery and...

Sabine Lippert, one of Beadwork Magazine's Designers of the Year for 2013 has started distributing her newly-designed Rizo beads here in the United States. So far, the response has been fantastic! What is a Rizo? Sabine designed the Rizo bead to fill in the gap in sizes between a drop and a dagger...
