Anne developed Caddis Weave when she wanted to use a bead with a large hole and trap it in place with seed beads.  She named this weave “Caddis” for the caddis fly, an insect that builds a wonderful case underwater during its larval stage.  This technique begins with a freehand peyote cord (see tubular peyote for an illustration).  Even tension is particularly important.  When you’re designing a pattern for this project, avoid anything too precise—this technique is better suited for simple stripes, color areas, and freeform or organic designs.  The instructions give the basic technique, which may be adopted for a bracelet or necklace.  This project was originally published in the Fall 1999 issue of Beadwork and will be free for a limited time.

I'm surprised at this technique called 'Caddis' weave. It's just a 2-step project: 1) bead up a tube either bracelet or necklace length using spiral Peyote, and 2) embellish the Peyote stitches with groups of smaller beads. And I thought Caddis weave was going to be something special. Embellishing can be done on a flat band of Peyote stitch as well, or herringbone, or brick.....

Can someone plse explain: The picture on the first page is not the same as the picture of the bracelet. The first looks more like little spikes with accent beads on each end. Is this the same as the bracelet or was the photo wrongly published? Manie Kriel
