The reason people emphasize spelling is for many reasons: ~ If you're making mistakes in spelling while selling or making jewelry, what OTHER mistakes are you making? Correct spelling shows you're serious about quality in everything you do. It conveys to a customer, or fellow beaders, that you're not offhand and uncaring in your work. Represent yourself with self-respect and care. ~ Spelling stuff the wrong way can affect what your communication MEANS. If you write "loose" instead of "lose," for instance, your sentence will mean something different. If you want to communicate clearly, it needs to be WRITTEN clearly. ~ Aww, give her a break....She spelled it wrong, so what? She used weak stringing material, so what? She did that stitch wrong, so what? She ran a stop sign, so what? ---Where do you draw the line? Where does casual style end, and sloppiness begin? Don't let yourself be a slob, Cayla. Elegance and bad spelling aren't consistent with each other; people will assume you're inconsistent too.

SoozH is right. If you don't use proper spelling & correct puctuation, it makes you look unprofessional. What if she decides to sell her products? I know I won't buy from someone who has a misspelled sign or literature. It doesn't take long to proofread what you've written. And there's always the SPELL CHECK key!

I know and work with kids and adults who will never win a spelling contest, nor can they ace a math quiz. What they can do... with a jar of paint, a tube of beads or a hub cap is a miracle! Some of the best artists, musicians, and the like could not get past math and spelling and they contributed greatly to society. All my students realize their limits, and if they need 'signage' or correct 'words' for whatever...they will get help. Just because you can't spell doesn't make you stupid. Did you ever hear of Dyslexia? What makes you look unprofessional is not giving a person a break. I really don't think your use of the word 'stuff' is very professional either.

Hey RaniL... if, in the future you take it upon your perfect self to call attention to someones misspelling of a word..... make sure YOU have spelled EVERY word correctly... Take for instance..., you misspelled "puctuation". It is correctly spelled....."punctuation"... You know, that thing about people who live in glass houses.....

Thank you Char and Jules jewels, I so appreciate your comments, as someone that it legally disabled in this regard I like to remind people that they don’t tend to scold people in wheel chairs for not being able to walk or the blind for not seeing. For someone just having the courage to write something in a public form can be a frightening thing. It is always great to remember that Einstein could not spell but was brilliant. There Some Native American cultures that believe and intentionally incorporate a mistake into there work so as not to challenge the powers that be with perfection.

Aww just one more. Cayla is still a child. When I was her age I wish some one would have helped me with my spelling. As adults it is up to us to help guide the young, but in a nice way. Cayla this is for you, it is great that you have found something that you love to do. Finding what you love to do in life is what it is all about. If you stay focused on the good things it will keep you from going the wrong way in life. I saw that two words were misspelled here is the proper way of spelling them sheak is spelled chic and purseuing has no e in it. Post some of your work, it would be nice to see

Just a not to all the grammarians out there... there were a few more words misspelled... but I had to go back to find them! I concentrated instead on what Cayla was saying... and was impressed that she got antique correct! I want to bead... have a bunch of beads, and materials, but haven't a clue as to how I should start getting that teeny wiggly elastic into those teeny seed bead holes.... Guess I will have to break the piggy bank and take a class... I am impressed with you Cayla, you have accomplished something I have yet to achieve (and I have had the beads for several years now!).
