very very pretty, i am one that goes for real stones such at least as cristal and swarowski and pearls (even if of culture) so this would be for me if ican find the materials in paris. i am not sure about finding the rose... and i don't know what to ask for as an elastic in french...

Just say, "comme ca" and make movements with your hands together apart, together apart like a stretchy movement. LOL

to E31to33: You can find the rose quartz stone flower at www.firemountaingems.com It is item number H20-4728NB, and costs from $2.68 to $5.65 depending on how many total items you buy. You can do a search for carved flower, and will get over 200 items, but only a few are double-drilled. There are also several other colors, a tan, dark green, landscape jasper, and black. Oh, I'm not connected with Fire Mountain in any way except as a satisfied customer. I like Fire Mountain because they tell you if an item is natural, dyed, heated, or faux. I have the pink flower in my stash but I've never used it - this has given me an easy, pretty, idea for the flower. I have different spools of elastic cord in different weights, I've had it for about a year and a half, does it "go bad" with age? I've noticed that it has yellowed a litle bit, but still seems stretchy. I love to do small bead necklaces and bracelets for my 10 year old neice, so much easier to get on and off. I do all my "kids" projects in elastic. The best way that I've found to secure it is to pull the knot tight, while holding it tight with your teeth put a drop or two of jewelers glue on the knot, repeat this a few times and you have a very secure piece of jewelry. I haven't had one break yet.

In french, elastic is translated as fil elastique - fil is the general word for thread. Wire is translated as fil en metal. Depending on the project, I double the elastic - the knot is a bit bigger but the elastic stands up better to wear and tear.

I would love to use elastic! But I think I am a little intimidated by the stretchy :(

If you are adept at polymer clay, you can make the flower using rose Fimo Soft I believe is the color. It looks just like rose quartz.

I am looking forward to making this pattern on a number of watches. using both the elastic and the double lobster claws to make the watchbands interchangeable . Elastic and lobster claw closures so I can sell them seperately. Love this pattern. I am using multi-colors. Thank you!Mary

A in Oak Park: haha that was very funny, as i am very vsual i just could picture the scene. do you have a blog by the way? NANCYD: thank you very much for the info, it being made of quartz is like half gem stone, so i like the idea OX i will check if they carry red, lime gree would be a fabulous option. SusanM: i see your point but fil elastique is more of the elastic thread used to shirr fabric with using a sewing machine on the bobbin side (back). Kathy: what i like is not to have to worry about a toggle. most of all i like this too because it's a bracelet, i don't wear necklaces and like to keep my diamond earrings on :-)

I have never worked with elastic, but I am anxious and excited to try this bracelet. I can think of a few people that would want one already. It is very feminine.

I've tried a couple of stretchy bracelets, and found that a surgeon's knot works fairly well, but there is still the issue of what to do with the ends. The extra drop of glue so often recommended hasn't worked for me. I have Krazy Glue and E6000. Are either of these considered jeweler's glue?

I've had some elastic/stretchy materials become brittle after many years, but generally it will break long before it become brittle from misuse. My problem is sometimes the sharp edges of the beads will begin to wear thru the cord, so you need to pick thru the beads or file the edges down before stringing.

Love this idea, very feminine and delicate. Good combination of materials that are common for most jewerly makers.

I was immediately drawn to this piece. However I was put off by the idea of making it with elastic. Elastic brings ideas of childrens jewelry, and cheap, poor quality. If I make this piece I will use a different material for the stringing. I love the look very much. E31to33: As for asking for elastic in French, I would bring a sample with me and show them, even if it is on a piece of clothing.
