Shame on you all for perpetuating an ugly stereotype.

Witches have enough trouble with harassment, discrimination, hate speech and threats to their livelihoods and lives without your adding to the false images.

Take me off your list -- immediately!

These are really cute. I am a "witchy woman" and don't find these offensive at all. But then, I don't find full moons spooky either -- I like them, and black cats and all kinds of Halloweeen fun. It is my favorite holiday. Thank you for the pattern.

I used to sell some lovely handmade Pukka Baby Witches and once did a Pagan Craft Fair, I sold one to a real witch... she wasn't offended, she said she loved them and actually collected witches of all shapes, sizes and descriptions - pretty or ugly she didn't care!

This project is not offensive, it's a bit of fun for Samhain or Halloween and I like it - I'm definitely going to have a go and make a pair for myself to wear! A bit of spooky fun.

have i missed something here?

I have been called a witch on more than one occasion, (I have an uncanny knack of fore telling things) I dont find these offenceive at all, they are rather cute.

As for perpetuating a steriotype, I was a pawn broker for nearly 8 years, the are suppose to be jewish men in little dark dusty shops... Im not and the shop wasnt. dont take it to heart.

If any one upsets me too much i just turn them into a frog!!

Hahaha wishwitch... I know a few people who could do with that treatment... fancy passing on the spell LOL!

I think some people take things just a tad too seriously at times.

My friend's a Wiccan and she's the kindest, gentlest person I know and not at all green, old or decrepit (altough I think she feels it sometimes hehehe!)

PamelaT wrote re: Beadwitched Earrings

Barb has a point if you're a Wiccan, but I think these earrings are really cute, too.  I think we all probably all have a little bit of the Wicked Witch of the West and a bit of Glinda the Good Witch inside us.  Besides, I'd love to cackle like the witch in Bugs Bunny cartoons.  These look really fun to make.  If they offend, there is also a great pattern on the inspiration section of Fusion Beads for spider Halloween earrings, too.  (Not plugging Fusion Beads, though I love their site.)  I just loved the "spidey" earrings.  Happy Halloween everyone.  (This is the first blog comment I have ever done!)

Thanks.

I hope Barbara was joking-  I think these are funny.

If she wasn't joking, she wouldn't like the sign I found earlier this week:  "Don't make me get the flying monkeys! "  I'm going to have to figure out how to bead that in a pin.  LOL  I know peyote would work but I'm thinking more gold wire letters...

Just because HER witch is ugly does not mean you have to make your own witches ugly!  I have the pleasure of attending a birthday circle soon. These give me inspiration for an appropriate little gift.

Barb, the world is full of Real things that are offensive,

harassing, discriminating and threating. Try and put your focus where it might do something better for all of us. This is a decoration for fun and the art of beadwork. Enjoy your Halloween.

We can all learn jewels of wisdom from the many cultures around the world. In this case, I'd suggest Barb take a page from the Budhist,

"There is no offense, where none is taken."

I to enjoy the holiday. I'm interested in this pattern. I'm not sure what the big bead is that makes the skirt or the cape. Is the skirt an upside down hart? Not sure I can find the beads and don't want to buy if I can't, but it is cute.

i am so tired of so called "wiccan" people being offended by something so stupid!   i am tired of them complaining about the whole black magic and white magic thing too.  get over yourself, if u are a true "beader" then these are absolutely adorable.  u dont have to like them, and u dont have to make them.  that comment was uncalled for, and no one really wants that opinion! have a good day, and blessed be!

MargaretD wrote re: Beadwitched Earrings

I'm Wiccan and find the earrings cute, but early on I most likely would have overreacted too. We all learn at different speeds.

As to errors downloading the PDF, I got a corruption error, signed on, and then could download the PDF just fine -- I suspect trying to download the file without signing in is a no-no but the error message isn't terribly helpful.

Minor errata -- the size of the purple beads is missing. I presume they would be size 11 as well?

Can this be done with black beading thread instead of wire to avoid the kinks?   I'm gonna try it.

My mom is Wiccan, and she would love those!  She would consider it an inside joke.  She does live in a largely Christian community, and she says sometimes the ignorance and prejudicial reactions to her religion are tiresome and insulting, but she just says you do what you can to help change perception. Blessed Be...

Hi.  I am Wiccan.  These are so cute.  They represent the Crone in the trinity of Goddess, so how can they be offensive? I plan on making several for gifts and one set for myself.   Blessed Be.

I can't believe what was said about these earrings. They are portraying a fictional character from a story (the wizard of oz). That is what the wicked witch of the west looked like in the movie! How can you call it offensive?

These earrings are totally awesome!  I think Barbara W. was just having a bad day (we all have them) and needed to vent.  And she is entitled to her opinion just as we are.  Hey, let's just enjoy the upcoming holidays.  Now, when can we expect the flying monkeys to go with these earrings?!?!?  Oh my gosh, I can just see them...lol   Have a great day everybody.

But, on a lighter note, you did give us all " our laugh of the day ", thank you for that.  LOL...

Hi All,

I hope that I'm not breaking a rule here and since the pattern is a freebie I'm assuming that I'm not.  I do feel sure however, that someone will inform if I'm making an assumption.  But there just seems to be so many folks that can't download the pattern that I figured that you'd probably find it helpful to have someone cut and paste the materials list.  I think most of us could look at the picture and figure out how to do the wiring.  If not if anyone wants to email me I'll be happy to copy and paste the whole thing into an email that you can then do what you need with it!

Thanks - shellyscorner

Barb--thanks for the reminder how often stereotypes slip past us as acceptable. But who said this witch is ugly or mean? She made me laugh. And I've been running in Circles my whole life.

Hey, Barb :)  Personally, I see this witch as a bedtime story witch. When I think of real "witches" today, my mental image is of beautiful, mysterious women with long, red locks and sultry eyes - smokin' HOT, in other words, not all green and warty!   I think the stereotype has had a bit of a turnaround.  I know the wiccans in my coven are lovely ladies, and this would just make them laugh.  Deep breath and blessed be! :)

Billy Z wrote re: Beadwitched Earrings

I am also a practicing Witch. Yes, a man can be a witch too! *laughz* I don't find them offensive at all. Barb is one of "those" kind of people that give us all a bad name.

I'm not mad at her or anything as opinions are like butholes. Everyone has one and thinks that everyone else's stinks. So be it, let her go if she wants.

I'm going to make a pair for my wife who is Christian, and yes it is strange to have a Heathen(I'm 1/4 Cherokee and a Wiccan Priest) and a Christian to be married, but we make it work because we both have TOLLERANCE. Some people don't get it, but it maters not.

I think that they are cute and I am definitely going to make at least one pair for the wife and maybe a couple of pair for my Priestess and her daughter. I may even wear one for Samhain myself. I am performng a Handfasting that night and I think that the Bride might like a pair too.

Don't worry about Barb too much, she's the one with the bug in her bonnet. Blessed Be.

I made the little witch into a hanging ornament. I couldn't get all the beads for the clothes so she had mussel shells for a skirt. It looks like she is a witch from the islands. Thank you for the pattern. Michele /// : ) -[---[ ///
