Sitting on a lanai in Florida one May, leisurely crocheting a seed-bead tube, Barbara realized that pairing sets of red seed beads with green cylinder beads could result in a holly-branch effect. It worked just as she had hoped! This project is from Beadwork magazine.

Beautiful, but very difficult to crochet! Try this in a peyote tube stitch instead. You may enjoy working on it much more. If you think you'll have a neat, immediate spiral tube, you're mistaken. In 4 hours, I was able to reach the 2nd round only to be thwarted there, twice. Very few will be able to do this as patterned. I was very excited to begin this but very disappointed in the difficulty of starting it. Also, the 12mm round bead in red is near impossible to find. Wish me luck finding it at the Gem Faire in Santa Monica.

I agree with RE. This is very beautiful and very difficult. I too tried to work on this and after about an hour of effort I ended up doing a peyote tube. I am also swapping the red bead with a donut. I do thank Barbara Richard for the inspiration though. I would not have attempted this, if the necklace in the photo wasn't breathtaking. I am hoping my version will be as lovely as this one.

As crochet beading is a favourite with me I look forward to working this one. I do love working in my own ideas but find this a really colourful one to work. I alsothink it would look lovely in the colours of the fall. Something to try after. My best wishes to all beaders for Christmas and 2009 and thanks to Barbara for such a lovely design. Gill White. hello I'm new at beading and I seen that a few of you said this is better with peyote stich I was wondering where I can go to learn how to do this specific type of stitch please help me and thank you!!
