Mini torches can be ideal for many jewelry projects, including drawing beads, fusing high-karat gold and fine silver, and torch-firing some enamels and precious metal clays. Although mini torches can be used for some smaller-project soldering, care needs to be taken to purchase the appropriate heatproof materials to use with them. Do not buy the torch from Harbor Freight for $5-10. It is not the same, it is made in cChina and I was given one as a gift and it exploded in my hand. Thank God I was near a window because I hurled it right out.

I have found that torches can vary greatly, although they often look alike!  Its best to go by brand names.  The original Blazer has been around for a long time and is still the best performer at $80.  Eurotool is now carrying a torch which is not quite as good but the price point is lower.  You also want to look at the safety mechanisms.  Some are so complicated that only a child can light it!

You will want to buy from a vendor who knows the products and does JEWELRY soldering.

Hi,  I purchased a micro torch, fire brick, tripod and two screens, copper tongs, pickle, and etc.  I haven't used this equipment yet.  Only fear can stop me; so here I am 6 months later reading that other people are intimidated also.  Well, no longer am I a coward alone. All I needed was to belong to a group with a name.  I will now begin my new adventure in making that little ball appear on the end of my wire.
