Earrings That Push The Envelope

Jun 28, 2013

When it comes to my own taste in bracelets and necklaces, I tend towards simpler pieces with clean lines. Earrings, however, are a different story. When I am getting ready for a night out on the town or accessorizing a particularly playful outfit, my go-to piece of jewelry is a pair of eye-catching statement earrings.

This is one of the reasons that I have thoroughly enjoyed leafing through New Earrings: 500+ Designs from Around the World by jewelry artist Nicolas Estrada.

Estrada opens his book by stating "Every piece of jewelry draws the viewer into a story and a world of its own." It was through this lens of jewelry-making-as-story-telling that he curated this collection of daring earring designs from artists all over the world.

Among the jewelry artists that Estrada chose to feature are

Salvado Mallol

Jacqueline E. Lillie

Elisa Paiva

Vina Rust

Nadja Soloviev

From wearable designs to avant-garde pieces, the range of earrings in New Earrings is pretty remarkable, and each pair is unique and innovative in its own way. I could drool over these pages for hours!

Happy Weekend!

Chloe

My theory for earrings: If they can't double as Christmas ornaments or fishing lures, why bother?

Sounds like my sister.  For years the game was to find a pair of earrings that she wouldn't wear.  I have yet to succeed.

I'm a little more conservative.  Of those pictured above, I'd probably only wear the Jacqueline E. Lillie or Vina Rust earrings.  I like looking a fancy ones though.  Kinda like shoes.  :)

Guess I'm not very cutting edge as I lean toward more traditional and classic designs,  though I do appreciate the art that goes into creating a very modern piece.

Of the earrings shown  I like the Vina Rust earrings the best, they're more to my taste and style. Though I like the style,  I haven't  figured out how one even wears the Salvado Mallol earrings.
